Arrow Mill Hotel

The Arrow Mill is nestled in a secluded riverside setting opposite the entrance to Ragley Hall. It stands in over 50 acres on the banks of the River Arrow and dates back to the early 1800s, on a site that reportedly had a mill on it recorded in the Doomsday book. Sadly it ceased to mill in 1962 but for the last 30 years has enjoyed a new lease of life as a hotel and restaurant.

Brunning and Price have sensitively transformed the building with the help of design Studio Spatialized, uncovering hidden gems as they go and restoring some of the more ‘tired’ areas to bring them back to their former glory. The building has lovely exposed beams and open fires, a bar laden with malts, gins and local ale and a kitchen set up to deliver fresh, classic British dishes. Brunning and Price have also incorporated a function room that seats 40, with a private balcony over the pond so that family occasions can continue to be celebrated at the mill. A beautiful garden complete with al fresco dining areas is perfect for those warmer months with a family of swans inhabiting the pond, happy enough to welcome guests into their world.

Peter Palfi has taken the reins following the sites opening in autumn. He, along with his wife Erika and Sons, Ben and Peter Junior previously looked after another pub with the Brunning and Price family, the Falcon in Warmington, just outside Banbury. Pete had been the landlord there since its opening in 2015 and Erika lovingly created the award-winning gardens. Before that they ran the Greyhound in Oxford, so are no strangers to the ways of hospitality.

Born in Hungary, Peter worked as a translator before he and his family moved to England in 2007.

“The timing was perfect for my boys to continue their schooling in England, obviously the perfect place to learn English. Peter Jnr has since gained his degree in Fine Art from Bath and is now studying for his Masters in America, whilst Ben has followed in our footsteps studying for a career in catering and hospitality and helping out in the pub whenever we need him.”

Arrow Mill is the first pub within the Brunning and Price family to offer overnight accommodation. Arrow Mill has nine bedrooms; eight housed within the main building and another in the old cottage at the side. Each has been beautifully furnished to create a homely feel but with all the ‘mod cons’ you would expect to make you perfectly comfortable.
