The Devlin Dublin
The Devlin Dublin, which is described as the coolest and newest community hub in Ranelaugh, has opened its doors.
Opened on Thursday 1st November, The Devlin is more than just a hotel. It is a place for eye popping art, gorgeous food, stimulating entertainment and mixologists creating dreamy drinks. With 40 modern and perfectly appointed bedrooms, a rooftop restaurant, terrace and cocktail bar and a 42-seater subterranean cinema, The Devlin is the place to see and stay in the city.
Guests enter the hotel on the ground floor and are straight into the lobby – the very heart of The Devlin where they check in with a super-friendly reception team. There is also a dedicated DIME coffee hatch, brewing up the Devlin’s own custom blend DIME coffee, brining java- lovers the perfect cupan caife and a selection of delicious pastries.
For browsers and shoppers, there is a selection of design oriented gifts from Industry & Co, one of Dublin’s most innovative and exciting home and lifestyle stores. The ground floor also features an Americana Bar, which serves up expertly crafted cocktails and drinks in a truly stunning yet relaxed setting.
The selected finishes throughout this floor include warm timber wall panelling picked up with bronze inlay detailing and a central black leather clad bar counter with bronze illuminated back bar. A timber floor has been laid in the Americana Bar and acts as a good acoustic backdrop to the glazed walls. The light coloured timber keeps a cool contemporary feel to the space and the pattern block adds an extra layer of interest and detail to the room. All decorative lighting, furniture and joinery were meticulously designed by O’Donnell O’Neill Design and are bespoke to The Devlin.
Speaking to Premier Hospitality magazine, Ann-Marie O’Neill from O’Donnell O’Neill Design said: “This was a new build hotel project and our role was as Interior Designers. We were involved from the project inception in the Interior Design concept and development for all areas of the hotel and the inspiring hotel architects were Lawrence & Long Architects.
“The Devlin is situated in the busy Dublin suburb of Ranelagh village so it was important that it took cognisance of its surrounds and fitted in with its neighbours. It had to be a hotel that was used as much by the people of Ranelagh as the paying overnight guest. The restaurant and bar spaces within the hotel were to be given as much importance as the bedrooms. The client wanted guests to feel like they could use all spaces in the hotel during their stay and not just be confined to their bedroom. At the same time the brief for the bedrooms was to create cosy, cool rooms with the best of everything in them. They overall design of the hotel needed to feel urban, smart and cool with great attention paid to the small detail.”
UK independent specialist, Pure Fitout, completed the exclusive fit out for The Devlin, from bespoke marble features to handmade carpets and bronze finishes. Bringing the hotel to life from scratch, Pure Fitout sourced and manufactured nearly every feature of the hotel from the 40 ModPods, to the timber panelled rooftop restaurant and bar, art deco cinema, bronze-finished Americana Bar and Moroccan tiled bathrooms.
Those staying at the hotel make their way to their accommodation via a mirrored ceiling bedroom corridor, which is lined with a unique, client commissioned carpet. Guests can then relax on one of the hotels super-comfy custom made mattresses in one of the hotels 40 cosy, cleverly designed bedrooms. The beds are cocooned within three sided upholstered panels in a rich grey fabric and are offset against the Inchyra Blue painted walls. Each of the two bedroom floors features a large, end of corridor picture window, flooding the brightly carpeted hallways with light and offering spectacular views of the Ranelagh streetscape below. Made especially by Pure Fitout’s in-house metal fabricators, the team crafted bespoke bronze and brass finishes for one-of-a-kind features throughout each of the 40 bedrooms.
On the lower ground floor is The Stella Theatre; 42 seat cinema, with state-of-the-art sound. The cinema space has individual mid-century style armchairs and couches with cosy lamps and side tables beside each armchair. The theatre also includes its own hand carved marble bar.
With its own dedicated marbled counter bar and a menu featuring Barbecue Pulled Pork Belly Sandwich, Fish Tacos, a selection of flatbreads and a lot more to choose from, this is the best spot in town to relax and get hooked to the silver screen. The hotel will be screening new releases, indie films, arthouse movies and cult classics all week long.
Guests can also experience a new perspective of Ranelagh from Layla’s Rooftop Bar and Terrace. The glass-surround terrace makes you feel like you’re floating right above the heart of Ranelagh village. Layla’s is an atmospheric space with an exposed timber joisted ceiling, oak floorboards and 1950s inspired tan leather booths along one window wall – with windows that open up wide for an airy feel when the weather permits. The timber ceiling is full of character, bringing warmth and charter to the interior, acting as the perfect contrast to the large expanse of glass in the room. The centrepiece of the room is a beautiful three sided marble and leather clad bar nestled beside the open kitchen and pizza oven. Guests can take in panoramic views over the chimney pots of Ranelagh, with the Dublin Mountains to one side and the sea to the other.
The Walls at The Devlin have been decked with eye-catching, original, innovative and Irish art from both established and up-and-coming fine artists, curated by friend of The Devlin and artist James Earley. There are over 160 pieces throughout the hotel.
Ronan Higham, Founder and Managing Director of Pure Fitout commented: “We are delighted to have helped turn the vision behind The Devlin into reality. For a place like The Devlin, the warm and luxurious character comes from the bespoke one-of-a-kind statement features and careful selection of high quality materials.
“We’re proud to have helped create another amazing environment which is our first exclusive hotel fit out, with Press Up Entertainment Group. Having worked with Press Up on several projects since we were founded in 2015, we’re consistently appreciative of the vision and ground-breaking designs that we have the pleasure of bringing to life.”
Ann-Marie added: “The hotel has been very well received by the public with plenty of very positive reviews in the media.”
