From 5-7 February Surface Design Show 2019 will take place at London’s Business Design Centre to provide a platform for architects, designers and specifiers to explore the best in interior and exterior surface materials, lighting design, development and innovation.

From exquisite hand-crafted surfaces to the latest technological advances in architectural lighting, Surface Design Show hosts over 150 exhibitors each year highlighting the very best in surface design. Many of the 2019 exhibitors will be exhibiting surfaces that are perfect for retail, enabling visitors to discover the latest trends and innovations in surface design for the retail sector.

Amongst these will be:

BluePrint Ceramics will be returning to this year’s Surface Design Show (Stand 202). They will be exhibiting a number of products including Artisano, Brickwork, Cathedral and Jive. Artisano is a beautifully designed tile collection that echoes a delicate handmade touch. In a light reflecting glossy finish, this collection oozes lustrous appeal. The Brickwork collection depicts the size of a traditional brick and flaunts vivid colours that can be used individually or amalgamated to create inspirational formations that radiate brilliance & glow.

FINSA (Stand 210) brings a curated selection of decors that looks at future trends to Surface Design Show 2019. Finsa’s new UK range is formed by 25 decors that have been selected based on the upcoming trends that aims approach the UK market with an innovative pallet of colours and textures that can easily combine to create either fun and bold or soft and elegant spaces. The range, called ‘Expressions by FINSA’, includes deep-textured woodgrain decors, unicolours and other special decors which include trendy patterns such as Terrazo Mix.

Innerspace Cheshire (Stand 376), brings designers together with authentic, innovative, easy to use materials for design. Innerspace has a range of products including cladding, veneers, sustainable surfaces, wall coverings and decorative surfaces. As a brand, Innerspace  continues to explore the creation of perfect tranquil and relaxing environments, by using inspiration from nature.  One product to be on show at SDS19 is the inspiring Naturemoss collections, including Forest Floor, which stretches the design boundaries of what is possible with a moss wall.

Surface Design Show 2019 also features some 40 talks from over 50 industry professionals, all designed to engage and inspire.

Returning for 2019 is the ever popular PechaKucha Evening, hosted by Chris Dyson of Chris Dyson Architects on 6 February from 6.30pm. The eight speakers will talk about 20 slides, each for 20 seconds discussing the topic; Identities and Boundaries – Site Specific Responses to Modern Architecture.

New to Surface Design Show is New Talent curated by internationally acclaimed speaker and forward-thinking Chief Creative Director at Trendease International, Jennifer Castoldi. Those chosen will be up and coming designers in the surface and materials sector. New Talent exhibitors can only have been in the industry for five years or less and will be hand selected by Jennifer.

Since 2013 the show has hosted the Surface Design Awards, now recognised as one of the most respected events in the design calendar. Of a total 13 categories, two are dedicated to the design of retail environments. The entries to the Retail Interior and Retail Exterior categories (see below) came from the UK, Italy, the USA and even China. Finalists included Aesop Flagship Store by Snøhetta, Louis Vuitton Flagship by Nathan Allan Glass Studios, and Lava Stone Shopfront by STAC Architecture. Also of the shortlist was Central Cross by BuckleyGrayYeoman, a reconfiguration of 32,000ft of retail and 13,500ft of restaurants at the Newport Sandringham building. Judges admired the detailed sheet brass framed around the shopfronts, with Paul Edwards of Airbus adding “I can imagine this was quite an achievement of manufacture.”

The Awards Presentation will take place on the morning of Thursday 7 February, at Surface Design Show. Tickets to the Presentation are available via the Surface Design Show website. Award partners include; James Latham, FINSA, Business Design Centre, Soluis and Roof Maker.
