New look for Jackson’s Hotel

Jackson’s Hotel in Ballybofey, Co. Donegal is beautiful hospitality, conference and leisure venue offering a large collection of bedrooms, alongside exquisite dining facilities. The hotel is managed by the same great team behind the popular Villa Rose Hotel and as such, is a leader in the hospitality sector.

Under new ownership since the beginning of 2017, Jackson’s Hotel has recently undergone a stunning transformation that has seen the hotel extensively renovated. Work has ranged from a complete refurbishment of the existing bar and restaurant to the transformation of the former Bistro into a traditional style Irish bar with a wood burning stove, leather seating and antique fittings.

Further renovations include the reception area, a total revamp of the function room and a detailed makeover across the bedrooms.

Keen to find out a little more about the work at Jackson’s Hotel, Premier Hospitality caught up with hotel owner, Tommy Gallen.  Tommy explained the reasons why the work was initiated and highlighted the project’s success.

Tommy said:

“We purchased the hotel two years ago and we felt it was the right time to upgrade. The hotel needed some attention, so when we took over it gave us the opportunity to give it a new lease of life.

“We began with the bar and restaurant in 2017, stripping everything back and giving the restaurant a new look – keeping everything within a traditional style.”

The hotel remained operational while the work was being undertaken, with Tommy commenting that the team “worked day and night to complete the project”.

Following this initial phase, Tommy and his team implemented an upgrade across the bedrooms. Tommy said: “We installed some new furniture into the rooms, including new beds, repainted the walls and gave them a new look.”

Jackson’s Hotel boasts more than 120 guest rooms, all designed to a very high specification. The rooms include flat screen TVs, tea and coffee making facilities and free Wi-Fi and offer luxury and comfort throughout.

Rooms are split into Classic, Executive, Family and Superior, with Executive Suites available offering fantastic views over Drumboe Woods. Disabled guests are also catered for with rooms accessible from all areas of the hotel.

The refurbishment of the rooms was split into two phases, with the second phase being undertaken alongside the creation of a new reception area. Once these areas were completed, the team set to work on the introduction of a new function room.

Tommy commented:

“Once again, we stripped everything back to the barebones and then installed all new elements – new walls, a new ceiling, new floors and a new bar.”

The final element of the refurbishment project involved the installation of another new bar. The bar has opened in time for Christmas 2018 and has rounded off an exhaustive, but impressive two-year programme.

Reflecting on the importance of the project, Tommy said: “This whole project has been good for the hotel and all of the local people have really got behind us. We’ve experienced such positive feedback, the reviews have been great and I’m really pleased.”

Tommy added:

“A great deal of work has gone into this hotel. Taking on a new business can be stressful, but when you see guests coming in and experiencing the ‘wow’ factor, it takes all of that stress away.”
