One Devonshire Gardens – Overnight success

A major bedroom refurbishment has added a luxurious new look full of warmth and distinctive character to the historic One Devonshire Gardens by Hotel du Vin in Glasgow.

The boutique hotel is made up of five grand 19th century Grade B listed houses connected on the ground floor and first floors.

The interior designer for the new bedrooms was Anita Rosato of Anita Rosato Interior Design.

Anita Rosato said: “The hotel, which has many original features, is located close to beautiful botanical gardens.

“The brief for the project was to create something different in the design of the bedrooms, so we took inspiration from the botanical gardens and also went back to the roots of the Hotel Du Vin brand, which is based on wine.

“Some of the rooms are named after different wines, so we also drew on the wine makers’ descriptions of these wines (such as ‘floral undertones’ or ‘citrus notes’) for example, in creating an individual interior full of character for each room – all of which are different in design and layout.”

All of the rooms are unusually spacious and all have very large windows and many other original features including fireplaces, cornices and huge bay windows, all of which have been preserved. The colour schemes are fresh, bright and vibrant, blending with original features and a selection of carefully curated antique and modern furniture, including luxury beds with bespoke panels hand blocked on Grass Cloth and fitted behind the headboards.

Anita Rosato said: “We introduced antique pieces to enrich the rooms and add reference to the history of the hotel buildings. Most of the rooms also have new feature lighting, curtains and carpets, and the bathrooms were also refurbished including new bespoke black and white vinyl wall coverings – also with a botanical theme.”

The hotel’s original collection of artwork and prints have been re-grouped and arranged in each room to complement the new decor.

A huge challenge of the project was completing the rooms and handing them back within a tight time frame, with all of the work being carried out while the hotel was continuing to operate.

Anita Rosato concluded: “The owners love the new look bedrooms and have also had some very good feedback from guests.

“It was good to work on this distinctive, special hotel and an important project for us.”

The bedroom refurbishment will be followed by the upgrading of the corridors which will commence in the new year.
