New Yorkshire Café

The Yorkshire Event Centre (YEC) has started the year off in exciting fashion after unveiling their latest refurbishment linking halls one and two.

The Yorkshire Café will be open during all conferences, exhibitions and events and it’s the perfect place for a morning coffee or catch up lunch with people during an event. It took two months to complete at the end of 2018. The YEC on the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate is attracting more and more events and visitors, and the team behind the venue is always keen to ensure the venue is first class. The new design improves the facilities and enhances visitors overall experience as well as improving the flow of visitors through the café area to relieve pressure points.

Richard Moorhouse, YEC manager, said:

“We wanted to upgrade the café to make  it modern and fresh like the rest of the facilities. The main feature of the café is the big window we’ve got overlooking the showground and the Crimple Valley. There’s one long sweeping counter making a much larger serving area, with fridges and hot counters; so a much bigger range of food and drink can be offered.”

A new range of dishes is being brought in – from classic snacks and sandwiches to hot meals and daily specials, and the YEC favourite, ‘YAPAS’- Yorkshire tapas featuring pork pies, cold meats and self-serve salads.

Richard continued:

“It gives the flow of pedestrian traffic a much smoother flow on busy days. So far the feedback has been really good, from a staff point of view too, because it’s a much more functional space. There’s safety flooring behind the counter. It’s a much brighter space, with a warm and homely feel, as we’ve lowered the ceiling. Before the renovation you could see the breezeblock walls, and it was a cold space and it echoed, but we used plasterboard and soundproofing so it’s insulated well too.

“We had one issue with the pillars in the space because we had to renovate around them, but we got the best out of the space and overall it went to plan. It was an important project for me because the café links both Hall 1 and Hall 2 perfectly – and it looks terrific now too!”

This latest project follows a hugely successful revamp of Hall of £11 million of Hall 1 in 2016. And since then the site has won a number of awards including ‘Best Venue under 8,000sqm in the national Exhibition News Awards, Business Tourism Award in the Whit Rose Award, Best Commercial Space in the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards and Project of the Year and Best Commercial Property in the RICS awards when the YEC was named the ‘most modern, inspiring and dynamic event space in the region’.

The Yorkshire Event Centre is based on the Great Yorkshire Showground which has 250 acres of outdoor space, and all profits raised from hosting events there go towards the registered charity Yorkshire Agricultural Society to help fund its work to support and promote the farming industry.
