GÅRD Restaurant

Located just over a mile away from Heathrow, Moxy London Heathrow Airport is a stylish hotel with an awesome design, affordable room rates and a new GÅRD Restaurant.

Amidst the crispy mountains and the mythical forests one can notice the Scandinavian tranquil gaze. The Scandinavian atmosphere is renowned for its relaxed and welcoming spirit. GÅRD embraces such emotions by inviting guests to be a part of the restaurant where the dinner table is the heart and guests are the focus.

GÅRD is part of the BELVAR Group, owned by Maribel hotel group. GÅRD is BELVAR’s own restaurant brand represented in five locations around Europe; Amsterdam, Gdynia, Brussels, Oslo and London. GÅRD introduces a place where all people can meet, socialise and share stories in a relaxed atmosphere.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality magazine about the project, Ingvar Aavik, Senior Interior Architect at BELVAR said: “The concept originally started out as a bistro concept and then we developed it into a free standing restaurant, which can also be connected to a hotel.

“To create the space, we looked back to the farmer’s houses at a time where the work in the countryside meant that the food and the crops were taken directly from the soil and put on the kitchen table. That heritage of producing food in a farmhouse was the inspiration for the restaurant layout, the show kitchen and the presentation of the food.”

GÅRD is a Scandinavian restaurant based around natural interior and natural materials. When designing the restaurant, BELVAR knew they wanted it to have a Scandinavian touch, yet feel very contemporary.

“At GÅRD, there is a combination of concrete floor and wooden floor mixed with a lot of industrial elements,” said Ingvar. “In the ceiling we have exposed the ventilation pipes and the ducts to offer that balance of the industrial, contemporary look with a cosy, homely atmosphere. This atmosphere is then provided by the touches of the tables and chairs which are solid oak. Scandinavian wool is used on the upholstery and we have mixed all of that with a decoration feel of Scandinavia’s nature.”

At GÅRD an open kitchen concept encourages customers to sit and watch the food being prepared and cooked by the chefs. GÅRD provides breakfast, lunch, dinner and even room service in some of the restaurants connected to hotels. At GÅRD, all of the flavours and ingredients are picked from Scandinavian culture and even though each restaurant has the same menu, chefs in each of the restaurants will make add-ons to the menu with local specialities and local ingredients.

GÅRD at Moxy London Heathrow opened on 27th March 2019.

Ingvar added: “It is very much our job, at BELVAR Developments, together with our culinary team, to create concepts and introduce new brands so we can service the public and our guests with not just an ordinary hotel experience, but somewhere we can focus on specific needs and surprising details.”
