Perpetua, Dublin

Opened in March 2018, Perpetua is Dublin’s first world-class hybrid gym. Located on Windmill Lane, the gym combines minimalist design with bold electric features to create a state-of-the-art training facility.

Pure Fitout was appointed to carry out the complete fit out and mechanical and electrical installation of Perpetua; the largest hybrid facility comprising of boutique pay as you go studios and memberships in Dublin.

Gym owner David Price, who owns Perpetua with his brother Michael, told Premier Construction magazine: “This is our second site in terms of the company but it is the first gym of this kind. Dublin is growing pretty dramatically with a lot of multi-national companies coming over and we have always been ahead of the game in terms of the niche market. We always wanted to take Perpetua to the next level and open it up to the masses.

“We describe it as ‘Approachable by All,’ so anyone coming through the door will find something for them from fitness to pay scale. It is for the committed and the flexible so you can come in and buy a membership that gives you access to the different areas and equipment and then the studio is all credit based so you can come in and buy credits to use that space, without being a member.”

At 12,000sqft, the fit out encompassed a lobby area, male, female and accessible changing facilities, a fully kitted indoor cycling room, Hiit studio, 4,000sqft CrossFit area, JustGYM area, therapy rooms and management offices.
Working closely with designer Katie Price, who is David and Michael’s sister, Pure Fitout ensured each detail of the project was made to exact specifications, including the manufacture of bespoke features such as the striking polished concrete floor, backlit ‘Perpetua’ front desk sign and ‘floating’ lighting to achieve the desired aesthetic.

David said: “Commenting on the project, Founder and Managing director of Pure Fitout Ronan Higham explained the detailed planning and electrical work that went into the fit out:
“Bespoke concrete features conceptualised by the Price family were brought to life by our specialist team of in-house craftsmen. The polished concrete floor was achieved through extensive grinding and sealing to create a smooth and sleek feel while the café counter top, bench seating, towel drop and vanity units were tailor made to fit exact specifications.

“We also oversaw the complete installation of Perpetua’s mechanical and electrical works. In order to achieve the front desk feature, the ‘Perpetua’ logo was laser cut into the front elevation of the unit and illuminated with backlighting so the light could be projected into the lobby.

“Unique elements were installed throughout the gym such as the ‘floating’ neon strip lights, accomplished by suspending flowforge mesh from the ceiling, and high-tech locker systems complete with keypads and USB outlets. We worked closely with Katie to ensure the installation was carried out in the most cost-effective way possible while staying true to design.”

David added: “The extra little touches are also important, so for example, door handle details are as if you are holding a barbell. They are little things but people are noticing them and saying they are one of their favourite things.”
Perpetua is Pure Fitout’s largest gym to date, completed within just 10 weeks ahead of the gym’s opening.

Ronan said: “The most challenging element of the project was co-ordinating with the landlord and the mechanical and electrical contractor to ensure the gym services such as emergency lighting, lifts and air conditioning tied in with those of the main building. We also faced various logistical challenges and went above and beyond to ensure we found a solution enabling us to complete the project on time and within budget. Perpetua launched in London in 2013 and recorded record sales of £1.7 million in 2018. Following the success of the Dublin site; David and Michael have plans to open more http://perpetua.ie/
