Victor Lugger, Tigrane Seydoux and the team behind La Felicitá and Pink Mamma in Paris have moved to London, where they have opened Italian trattoria, Gloria.

Speaking before the launch, Victor and Tigrane said: “The reason we became restaurateurs in the first place was to bring to life all of the warmth and generosity of those little trattorias you find hidden throughout Italy. When you step into one of our restaurants, we want you to feel transported.

“To do that, we ensure that all of our products are directly sourced from Italy, from suppliers that we know and love. That’s how our story began: we spent three years travelling across the country sourcing products from Emilia to Puglia. We love Stefano Borchini and his incredible Parma ham, Emmanuele Cammarrota in South Puglia and his creamy Burrata and Vittorio Calla makes the best ‘Nduja’ we have ever tasted.

“The second thing we do is make everything in house; from our fresh pasta to our strong, slightly bitter roasted coffee. Gelato is homemade too, just as we brew beer and make our own Limoncello. We do that because that’s how they do it in Italy. Plus it’s way more fun and ensures we have kick-ass quality and 100% traceability. Our entire team is young, gusty, passionate and Italian and to us – that’s what matters most.

“We moved to London because the city is an absolute dream for us. Now that we have built a team in Paris, we felt the time was right to cross the channel. It may sound silly to talk about fate, but that’s what we feel is happening here – to have found this great site, on the corner of Great Eastern Street and Charlotte Road, in the heart of Shoreditch, and to bring our Big Mamma family to London was meant to be.”

Gloria, a vintage style trattoria, accommodates 160 covers, over two floors. In-house design studio, Studio Kiki, who also worked on La Felicitá and La Bellezza in Lille, created the space with the look and feel of Capri in the 1970’s.

On the interiors, Victor and Tigrane commented: “We believe that design should be warm, democratic and above all, authentic. We hate ‘faux-old’ and we like the feeling that from the day we opened, it feels like we have always been here.”

Gloria opened on 22nd February 2019 at 54-56 Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch. It is open all week from 8am until 10:45am, Monday to Friday, from 9am until 10:45pm on Saturday and from 9am until 10pm on Sunday.
