Carrigaline Court Hotel
Situated in the bustling southern Irish town of Carrigaline in County Cork, the four-star Carrigaline Court Hotel & Leisure Centre offers luxurious facilities of international standard to both business and leisure guests.
Warm and inviting, the hotel boasts many excellent facilities including 91 spacious bedrooms, the elegant Bistro restaurant and the contemporary Collins Bar. The Carrigaline Court also houses five superb conference rooms and a fully-equipped leisure centre, which incorporates a 20-metre swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room, gym and Beauty & Massage treatment rooms.
In operation for just over two decades, the hotel is now entering a new era as the second phase of an extensive €3 million refurbishment project nears completion. Led by General Manager Jerry Healy, the refurbishment has transformed the elegant property into an opulent, sophisticated and stylish retreat, and one that would sit comfortably in any of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities.
Premier Hospitality magazine spoke to Carrigaline Court Hotel General Manager Jerry Healy about the extensive refurbishment work and the new-look four-star hotel.
How did this project come about?
“Our hotel has now been in operation for over 20 years, so it felt like the right time to invest in our appearance and facilities. We pride ourselves on offering our guests the very best when it comes to service and quality and believe that the Carrigaline Court ‘experience’ should begin the minute a guest steps through the door. Our stylish new lobby and stunning rooms are already making a huge impression and I have to admit that we’re relishing the feedback!”
What are the timeframes on this project?
“The work began in September 2018 and it is due to be completed in June of this year.”
Before you started, did you have an idea of how you wanted the hotel to look?
“We had a very clear idea in mind and recruited the help of Gráinne Weber Architects to bring this vision to life. The refurbishment is very contemporary, but we feel it is in keeping with the tone and style of the hotel and maintains the friendly atmosphere the Carrigaline Court is known for.”
Starting with the bedrooms, how do they differ now to what they used to look like?
“They are unrecognisable! We redesigned all the bedrooms and the bathrooms in their entirety; the bathrooms now have walk-in showers while the bedrooms are modern, colourful and chic. We find that the two amenities guests value most in a room are a comfortable bed and a good TV, so we have no doubt they’ll be more than happy with the new design.”
In terms of the public areas, what sort of changes have gone on there?
“The lobby and reception area have been completely transformed thanks to a striking reception desk design, complemented by plush bespoke furniture and a blue, grey and gold colour palette.”
Would you say there are any design highlights throughout the new refurbishment?
“The suites and the lobby area, which have both been finished to a five-star standard. The reception in particular is a fabulous new addition to the hotel that sets the tone as soon as a guest walks through our doors.”
Has the hotel stayed open during the refurbishment?
“Yes, thankfully it has been fully operational.”
Have there been any difficulties or challenges with staying open whilst undertaking a refurbishment?
“Luckily we didn’t experience any major issues while the work was being carried out – thanks hugely to the patience and understanding of our team and loyal customers.”
Have you heard any guest feedback about the changes that have been implemented so far?
“Words like ‘plush’ and ‘five-star standard’ have been uttered by our guests more than once! It’s wonderful that our customers are so appreciative of what we have done. We have a lot of corporate clients that come back week after week and their feedback has been super.”
How important has this project been for you to be involved with and what will it mean for the hotel once completed?
“It is very important for the hotel as a business and it is equally as important to the management and staff as a team, because we knew that this work needed to be carried out in order to move forward and to offer our customers the best possible facilities and a luxurious, memorable experience.”
