Breaffy House Hotel

Breaffy House Resort is located in the heart of County Mayo and is the perfect destination for a well-deserved and relaxing break. Situated on 90 acres, the resort consists of the four star Breaffy House Hotel and the three star Breaffy Woods Hotel both located within a 2 minute stroll of each other. Combined these sister properties are renowned as two of the very best hotels in County Mayo.

PREMIER HOSPITALITY spoke to Mr. Wilson Bird, the General Manager about Breaffy House Hotel’s recent refurbishment. He said:
“The hotel was very very dated and was in need of a massive large scale refurbishment everywhere. Primarily, the ground floor, bedrooms, suites and executive suites were a key focus. The bar is a highlight of the refurbishment; it’s completely new and is part of an award-winning international chain of Irish bars branded as ‘Healy Mac’s’ with additional bars located in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Indonesia, Estepona, Spain. To link in with this was fairly significant for the hotel.

“We now also have a 200 cover restaurant, 8 suites including 2 executive suites, all of which include a free standing bath, walk-in rain shower units, mini bars and plasma screen TVs with chrome cast ability.”

Other amenities on the resort include the Leisure Club and Spa with an indoor 20m swimming pool and paddling pool, 2 playgrounds, astro turf pitch, orienteering course and the Breaffy Buddies Kids Club which runs during School Holidays. We have a 16,000 square foot Sports and Events arena which can cater up to 2,500 people theatre style with a newly refurbished Wedding Ballroom which can cater up to 500 people banquet style.

Breaffy House Hotel offers traditional old-world charm with modern luxury and prides itself on genuine Irish hospitality complimented by magnificent grounds with stunning woodland walkways and a beautiful South Terrace. The house dates back to 1890 and is an excellent base for a relaxing break whilst exploring the breath-taking Wild Atlantic Way. As part of the refurbishment, the house has retained some of its original country house atmosphere including its magnificent repointed 19th century Victorian façade which gives the hotel a castle-esque type appearance.
Wilson continued:

“Our profile has increased exponentially based on this investment. One of the biggest benefits that has resulted from the refurbishment is our partnership with Moet & Chandon. When you walk into reception there are simple touches like Moet & Chandon branded cushions, a custom bespoke clock made from Moet & Chandon gold magnum bottles. We also offer luxury Moet & Chandon spa packages so all in all the Moet & Chandon branded theme follows from arrival through to the bedrooms and the Spa providing a luxury high end premium guest experience.

“Additionally this hotel was an old stately home, originally owned by the Brown family. Lying beneath the passageways of the house was the old gun room which we have recently converted into a bespoke wine cellar including a whole section devoted to champagne and Moet & Chandon!

“Over the last three years we’ve effectively doubled our revenue. The biggest challenge we faced involved working within a live site because there was business still going on so the work had to be done in November, January and February (the winters of 2016 and 2017) while simultaneously managing guest expectations.

“Guests reviews have been extremely positive with over 1,000 five star reviews. It’s been an investment over two and a half years and we’re delighted with the outcome of it. I’m able to stand tall and proud as a general manager that Breaffy House Resort is now a premium destination hotel in the West of Ireland.”
