Sixteen 22 at Beech Hill Country House

Surrounded by 32 acres of stunning woodland landscape, Beech Hill Country House is one of Northern Ireland’s leading country house hotels. Just two miles from Derry, Beech Hill blends the city and the countryside to provide the ultimate hospitality escape.

Earlier this year, the venue added an exciting new food and drink offering following the creation of Sixteen 22 – a stunning gastro pub. Sixteen 22 was built following the conversion of 3 bedrooms to provide the new 40-seater bar and restaurant.

This was overseen by Tracey Architects, while the design of Sixteen 22 was masterminded by Intec Design. Phase 1 of the work, which encompassed the formation of the new bar and restaurant, commenced in October 2018 and was completed at the end of Mar 2019. Phase 2 will involve the erection of a new glazed orangery extension.

Given the listed nature of the building, the new look has been carefully considered to respect and enhance the structure. Peter Tracey, Tracey Architects, said:

“I think it’s good to see the vison and courage of the new owners bear fruit.”

Sixteen 22 has a down-to-earth, traditional feel with a simple palette of colours and materials. Timber features heavily in the new bar and furnishings, with stone floor tiles helping to enhance a homely feel. Seating is divided between leather booth seating and standalone tables. The intimate look and feel is rounded off by inventive pedant lighting.

Sixteen 22 serves food daily from 12pm till 9pm. The all-day menu is split between small and large hot meals. Standout dishes include Smoked Chicken & Spinach Pasta, BBQ Pork Belly Ribs, 8oz Donegal Ribeye Steak Garni and Craft Beer Battered Fish.

Sixteen 22 joins an existing food and beverage offering at Beech Hill that includes Ardmore Restaurant and Lady Isabella’s Afternoon Tea. All ingredients for Beech Hill are sourced from its grounds at the Walled Ground.

Beech Hill County House is a venue rich in history dating back over 400 years. It first opened as a hotel in 1991. Rooms and suites are divided between the garden wing and the original manor house. Beech Hill is also a hugely popular destination for weddings, thanks in part to stunning surroundings, and boasts a highly experienced wedding team.
