RDA is an award-winning, family-run design and installation company specialising in new-build and refurbishment projects across a range of sectors including restaurants and the high street. RDA prides itself on providing a full ‘turnkey’ service, from consultancy and design through to supply and delivery, project management, installation, handover and aftercare.
Nick Bradley, Director at RDA said: “At RDA we provide a full turnkey operation for our clients but not all are aware of that. For instance, we might get a request for some back-of-house kitchen equipment from someone who doesn’t realise we can also provide their front-of-house design too. On the other hand, some may ask us to provide a design without realising we have the capability to deliver the installation as well. It’s often a relief that we can take the headache away from someone who isn’t necessarily accustomed to running projects, which allows them to stay focused on the day-today running of their business.”
“At the moment we are also pushing the boundaries of our design side of the company in terms of our standards of design visualisation. All of the CGI pieces we are now producing are photo realistic and we have VR provisions alongside that, meaning we can use iPads and headsets, which allows customers to interact with their scheme proposals.”
With offices in Central London, as well as the North East, RDA is well positioned to quickly respond to the UK’s thriving hospitality scene. The company’s clients include leading high street and hospitality brands, through to small independents and emerging brands, where RDA helps to create innovative dining spaces that enhance the customer experience.
Projects recently completed by the company include Niche Restaurant in Islington, The American Express Invites Lounge at the O2 and The Empire Bar & Grill at the SSE Arena, Wembley. PREMIER HOSPITALITY MAGAZINE has looked at these three standout projects in more detail.
Opened in 2013, Niche was London’s first 100% gluten-free restaurant to be accredited by Coeliac UK. Since becoming entirely gluten-free in 2015, following Owner and Executive Chef Marc Wade being diagnosed Coeliac himself, Niche has doubled its trade, enjoyed rave reviews from the UK’s hospitality media and held the TripAdvisor ‘Certificate of Excellence’ since 2016.
When they were looking to refurbish the restaurant, owners Marc and Adrian called in RDA’s design experts to reinterpret the current industrial trend into a softer restaurant environment.
Retaining the features slate and existing branding and artwork, which has become synonymous with the restaurant, RDA designed and installed feature tiling, new flooring and fixed seating throughout. New hanging pendants create a softer ambience and mood and a new gantry over the bar provides that Bistro feel.
The American Express Invites Lounge
For this project, RDA was appointed by Levy UK and AEG at the O2 to refurbish the mezzanine VIP bar area in the American Express Invites Lounge. The key aim of the project was to enhance the experience of a new VIP package through a ‘premiumisation’ of the bar and an addition of a new food counter to supplement the existing F&B offer.
As the upgrades were largely operational, the brief around the aesthetic was to tie in with the existing look and feel. However, through some interesting finishes, RDA’s team of designers were able to bring added touches of luxury to the interior. This included using a blackened metallic bar cladding and new back fittings adorned with an antique mirror. To create a more social vibe on the mezzanine, two booth seats were removed in favour of high-top poseur tables with new stools in black and gold.
Nick said: “This is the second project we have completed for The O2 as part of our ongoing relationship with Levy UK and AEG. We were delighted to have the opportunity to transform the VIP bar in one of the most prestigious hospitality spaces at The O2.”
The Empire Bar & Grill
RDA was appointed by Levy Leisure to transform an outdated Bar and Grill at the SSE Arena, Wembley. RDA’s team of design experts worked with the leading sports and hospitality caterer at the SSE Arena, Wembley to refurbish the bar. Together they created a modern twist on an art deco concept for the 160 capacity seat Empire Bar & Grill restaurant and separate VIP lounge.
Nick said: “It was a privilege to work on such an iconic building and bring some of its history back to life through the design. Our interior scheme is simplistic, which reflects the building’s architectural style.
“There are few injections of glamour with deep accent colours and gold finishes here and there; a more subtle homage to how the Empire Pool has evolved into a top-class music venue over the years. We’ve also retained and reorganised many of the original photos from when the building was built, providing a glimpse into 1930s revolutionary engineering in progress.”
