Hickory’s Smokehouse Poynton

Popular Southern style restaurant Hickory’s Smokehouse has opened in Poynton, on the site of the former Vernon Arms in Poynton, has undergone a total transformation.

The independent Cheshire based group have been operating in Chester for almost 20 years, with their cocktail bar, Barlounge and Upstairs At The Grill, an award-winning steakhouse restaurant before opening their first Hickory’s 9 years ago. Hickory’s Poynton is their first site in the Manchester area and is set to be a superb addition to the local dining and drinking scene.

Hickory’s Managing Director John Welsh commented, ‘We’ve spent weeks of extensive training with the team and have had some great trial nights this week. During these practice nights we’ve met so many of our wonderful neighbours along with some great local businesses who have all been so supportive and welcoming. It’s a great site and we can’t wait to introduce lots of new guests to what we do here at Hickory’s.’

So, what can you expect?

The fresh new exterior gives a hint of what the team have done, with lots of quirky touches and Southern inspired design ideas.  The whole site now oozes Southern charm with cosy booths, a dedicated bar area showing live sports, chefs bar, and even a cinema room for the little ones. Inspired by a recent trip to South Carolina the veranda is the perfect setting for dining outside and the garden has equally been shown as much love, with a host of sheltered seating and stunning planting.

Macclesfield based landscape architects Tim and Paul from Branching Out Two along with their team have worked tirelessly to get the garden finished in time for the school holidays. “The guys have worked around the clock to make sure we were not only able to open on time, but early. It’s absolutely stunning, we couldn’t be happier with how it looks and can’t thank them enough.” adds John.

The huge menu is packed full of the flavours of the deep South with classic smokehouse dishes such as ribs, brisket and pulled pork sitting alongside a superb selection of signature steaks, burgers and varied main course options. Veggie’s and vegans are well catered for too and there are more sides, appetisers and desserts than you could eat in a year! Brunch is a big deal here too and the guys will be serving up some impressive breakfast and brunch options from Friday to Sunday every week, starting next weekend.

Equally well catered for, drinkers will love this place too with a bar packed to the rafters with quirky craft beers, interesting wines and to-die-for cocktails. From the Big Easy inspired ‘Game Changer’ to the mind-blowing milkshakes you could have a different drink every time you visit and still never make it through the menu. The beer selection is equally as tempting and includes locally brewed Idaho from The Poynton Brewery and Hickorys Pale Ale brewed in partnership with Purity Brewery.

Families are at the heart of the offering here too and the guys pay more than a nod to their family friendly credentials. The specially created VIK menu has been designed by real Mum’s and the outside area with play train & yard games, cinema room and table top entertainment should keep the little ones happy.
