Lough Bar and Vespers at The Culloden Estate & Spa

Northern Ireland’s foremost 5-star hotel, The Culloden Estate & Spa, has unveiled a £750,000 investment which has seen the complete transformation of two of the main public spaces on the ground floor.

What was formerly The Mitre Restaurant is now the Lough Bar which offers guests panoramic views over Belfast Lough and a new menu boasting light fayre from traditional seafood chowder to steak sandwiches from Hannan Meats unique Himalaya Salt Chamber. By evening the Lough Bar transforms into a pre and post dinner area for guests to enjoy some exquisite cocktails, premium wines and a range of fabulous gins.

The hotel’s new fine-dining restaurant, Vespers, is situated where the Crozier Lounge once was, and is a nod to the ecclesiastical history of the hotel, which was originally built as an official palace for the Bishop of Down. The décor at Vespers is gothic grandeur with the restaurant boasting views of the stunning gardens, meaning guests can enjoy the new seasonal menus created using the very best of local produce as they look out over the hotel’s grounds.

Chairman of Hastings Hotels, Edward Carson said: “We have a continuous investment programme for all seven of our properties and the latest renovation of The Culloden represents a total of £5.5 million spent on the estate in the last four years. We are confident that the reconfiguration of the Lough Bar and Vespers Restaurant will ensure an even better guest experience. Great thought was put into the design and décor of both spaces and we are delighted with the result.”

Garrett Power, General Manager of The Culloden Estate & Spa added: “Along with the new restaurant and bar, there has also been a significant investment in the conference and banqueting facilities with the iconic Stuart Suite, one of the largest ballrooms in Northern Ireland, redecorated with exquisite new mirror work, chandeliers and a new fountain at the private entrance to ensure a memorable arrival for guests.

“We have also introduced a new private dining option with the opening of the Robinson Suite. This sumptuous space affords guests unparalleled views of Belfast Lough and comes complete with a new state-of-the-art kitchen to allow our brigade of chefs to cater for high-end private dining events. This complements our existing banqueting options in both the Holywood and Stuart Suites for prestigious events.”

Standing high on the slopes of the Holywood Hills, overlooking Belfast Lough and County Antrim, The Culloden Estate & Spa is the most prestigious luxury five star hotel in Northern Ireland. The Culloden stands in 12 acres of beautiful secluded gardens and woodland with palatial surroundings, exquisite décor, fine antiques and exceptional service combined to give The Culloden Estate & Spa a unique air of elegance.

The recent renovation work has ensured that The Culloden Estate & Spa remains one of the top hotels in Ireland. Following the impressive bedroom, spa and restaurant refurbishment, The Culloden continues to attract guests from around the world and pick up prestigious accolades; most recently being named ‘Luxury Hotel of the Year’ at the Irish Hotel Awards and Highly Commended at the first ever Georgina Campbell Breakfast Awards in the ‘Best 5-Star Hotel category.’

Interiors & Floor Design is a long established company and has been supplying interior services for over 30 years in the hospitality, healthcare and private sectors. The company has a longstanding relationship with Hastings Hotels and was recently involved with the creation of the Lough Bar & Vesper at the Culloden Hotel & Spa. Amanda Ramsey, Director, commented:

“The New Vesper restaurant scheme was built around some existing furniture pieces and fabrics. The carpet design is reminiscent of gold leaf with rich teals. Deep coloured décor to walls compliment the fabrics and accentuate the detail around the window reveals. A large feature light fitting was specially selected to hi light the glazed lightwell and bronze metallic wallcovering to set off the existing grand fireplace.

“The bar scheme was designed to create luxurious, soft and comfortable seating areas with stunning views over the Lough.

“As always it is a privilege to be involved in working with Hastings Hotels on the upgrade and refurbishment of their properties. There is a great team involved from the builders to the fitters to turn all around in tight time frame in a functioning Hotel.”
