Revolutionary, innovative and sustainable YOTEL lands in Amsterdam North
YOTEL, the innovative, global hotel concept for ‘smart’ and tech-savvy travellers, opened its doors in Amsterdam North on 4th November 2019. With an all-day dining concept, beautiful terrace on the water and an outdoor cinema, the 202-room hotel offers guest a unique experience by combining smart use of technology with a sustainable design – all offered at a competitive price.
YOTEL Amsterdam, the first city hotel on the European mainland, is located in the epicentre of the emerging Buiksloterham district, built on the sunny banks of the Tolhuis canal. Buiksloterham is the home of start-ups and creative companies, making it the ideal base for today’s travellers.
The Cabins – YOTEL’s word for hotel rooms – are equipped with the features that are characteristic of YOTEL such as the space-saving adjustable SmartBED™ with Serta cool action gel memory foam mattress, refreshing amenities from Urban skincare, an en-suite rain shower, adjustable mood lighting, free of charge super-fast Wi-Fi, HD Smart TV’s with Chromecast and much more.
The centrepiece of everything is KOMYUNITI, the common area of the hotel that is open all day and opens onto a gigantic terrace on the water. The bright and spacious restaurant and bar serves a mix of extensive and smaller dishes from snacks to sharing dishes, with all ingredients provided by local partners. The coffee is supplied by coffee roaster Workshop Coffee and is specially selected for YOTEL every season. KMOYUNITI is for guests but also for local residents and is an inviting place to work and relax. Events organised vary from yoga classes and running training to film screenings under the stars in the cosy open cinema.
“We opened one of our first hotels in Schiphol, so it was only logical for us to return and open our city hotel concept in a country that has already embraced us. Amsterdam North is a thriving, cultural centre that offers travellers from all over the world the opportunity to take a more alternative side to discover the city. With a quick and easy base to the city centre and a range of cool businesses in the area, it was a perfectly logical step in this area for us. YOTEL adds another offer and we hope our guests have plenty to enjoy,” said Hubert Viriot, CEO of YOTEL.
Developed by Being Development and designed by Studioninedots, also located in Amsterdam North, this hotel has an excellent reputation for sustainability. The hotel benefits from a unique water system that collects, stores, filters and recycles water and also uses energy-saving LED lighting sensors to ensure that nothing stays on if it doesn’t get used. Guests arriving with an electric car can charge their vehicles at one of 10 charge points of the hotel.
Joy Maroulas, General Manager of YOTEL Amsterdam said: “We are planning to take the scene in Amsterdam North and offer a stylish place to enjoy and work. We are extremely proud of the building and our sustainability initiatives will have a positive impact on the environment.”
Additional facilities at YOTEL Amsterdam include time-saving self-service kiosks in airport style, a modern gym that is open 24/7, bike and e-bike rental and space for mooring boats on the terrace.
YOTEL Amsterdam is the second city hotel of YOTEL in Europe – in July 2019 YOTEL Edinburgh New Town opened – and with the new location it complements the YOTELAIR hotel that is already established at Schiphol. YOTEL Porto, Glasgow and London are scheduled to open in 2020 as part of the brand global expansion plans.
