Bancone Soho London

Written by Roma Publications

Second site now open at a Lower James Street location in Soho.

Bancone, the buzzy, all-day fresh pasta restaurant, has opened its second site at 10 Lower James Street in the heart of London’s Soho, just south of Golden Square. Bancone, which means ‘bar’ or ‘counter,’ was born out of a shared and longstanding passion for Italian pasta and wine with the original Covent Garden site opening in June 2018 to rapturous acclaim, receiving outstanding reviews from ES Magazine and The Guardian which has ensured a full house from the start.

The 4,000 square feet restaurant, which was designed by Innovare Design, provides several ‘banconi’ (counters) for around 90 diners, with a sizeable basement downstairs complete with cocktail bar and private dining for around 12-16 people.

The décor at Bancone is bright, airy and relaxed with a beautiful olive tree centrepiece in one area for diners to sit around at a counter. There is also a lovely long counter in the window for people-watching. There are also several dining bars where guests can relax and eat while watching the chefs at work, in the restaurant window or at the ancient olive tree.

At Bancone, head chef Stefano Cilia has created a menu which takes in everyday favourites such as the now famous ‘Silk handkerchiefs with walnut butter and confit egg yolk,’ alongside monthly-changing seasonal specials. Desserts will also continue to thrill, alongside aperitivi creations such as the new ‘Amaresso Martini’ or ‘Orange Blossom Negroni – simple but killer twists on the classics. The menu at Bancone takes inspiration from many of the 20 regions of Italy with the pasta skilfully made by hand every day. The exciting result is a combination of both traditional dishes and new creations pushing culinary boundaries with integrity and passion.

The wine list at Bancone has been created to showcase the very best from Italy, as well as a few favourites from elsewhere in the world. The wines have been chosen by the team for their quality and value for money at every price point. The Bancone team has had “great fun” compiling the list and sourcing wines from all types of producers from small, family run vineyards, to some of the biggest and most reputable wine makers around, in each case picking what they felt where the most delicious and interesting in each category.

Bancone opened in December 2019 and is open Monday to Saturday from 12pm until 11pm and Sunday from 12pm until 9pm.
