JCB Golf Course and Country Club

The JCB Golf and Country Club reflects the bold, ambitious vision of Lord Bamford, Chairman of the iconic construction and agricultural equipment manufacturer, JCB. The golf course and country club is nothing less than the creation of a tour-ready contemporary masterpiece in course design. Set amid the lush countryside of Staffordshire, the course, along with luxury accommodation and dining offers the ultimate in golfing retreats. It finished in 2018, and its newest additions are the lodges.

Built on a 240-acre site adjacent to the headquarters of multi-national engineering and construction company JCB Ltd, the 18-hole course was designed by British architect Robin Hiseman of European Golf Design, and serves as a showpiece for the engineering excellence of JCB’s machinery. A total of ten of the company’s diggers were used to help shift over half a million tonnes of earth during the initial phases of the construction project.

The finished golf course meanders through a mixture of parkland and woodland, interspersed with lakes and streams. The short holes are particularly strong, with the par-three 9th located in what used to be an arboretum, playing back towards the ruins of Woodseat Hall, which will eventually be restored to create one of the most spectacular halfway houses in golf. The 7308 par 72 course has been designed and constructed to the highest specification, challenging elite golfers at full distance yet allowing corporate golfers an enjoyable experience.

The ten luxury lodges are nestled within the course and are available for members only. Each lodge has a communal lounge area and four spacious en-suite private bedrooms, with views out over the course.

The Golf Academy on site continues the theme of a world class facility where students, members, or guests are all able to learn skills in a relaxed, positive environment. It also boasts state of the art training facilities. The Academy also has a retail outlet, featuring golf apparel, accessories, memorabilia, and hardware.

JCB Golf Course Manager, Euan Grant, said at the time of opening: “It’s truly remarkable to see how the course has come to life in the last few years; going from rolling Staffordshire countryside to what we believe is one of the best layouts in the country. I’m so grateful to have been able to be a part of the journey and am already so excited to see what the future holds for us – we believe the sky’s the limit in what we can achieve as a golf venue.”

J.C. Balls & Sons

J.C. Balls & Sons specialises in earthworks and civil engineering. In operation since 1963, we have built a strong reputation in the East Midlands as the area’s premier plant hire and contracting business.

The company employs a skilled workforce of over 100 people and operates a fleet of over 50 machines and 30 lorries. We have been involved at JCB Golf & Country Club since August 2014. This began with earthworks, where we moved approximately 400,000m3 of earth over a 2 year period. We then went on to build roads and car parks within the site before doing the groundworks for the new lodges.

The JCB Golf & Country Club project has allowed us to develop our business with new technologies (GPS Guided Machines) and engineering capabilities. The variety of works required on the site has provided the perfect opportunity for growth. As a business we have always had JCB excavators and have had a good working relationship. This has only got better during this project and we look forward to hopefully many more to come.

We have a very large client base and pride ourselves on our reputation for providing a quality service. This includes JCB, Galliford Try, Waystone Development, Roe Developments.
