This Month in Premier Construction 29.1
Welcome to the latest edition of Premier Construction!
In this month’s issue we take a look at The Royal Albert Hall; we check out The Science and Industry Museum; and we explore the refurbishment of Neville Hall.
In 1871, the year that The Royal Albert Hall opened, it staged just 36 shows. It now hosts almost 400 events in the auditorium and many hundreds more around the Royal Albert Hall every year. With the site turning 150 this year, a masterplan of projects is being undertaken which forms the basis of a capital strategy for the next ten plus years. The Great (Interior) Restoration comprises the conservation, redecoration and refurbishment of all the interior Front of House spaces and the Auditorium.
At The Science and Industry Museum, a spectacular new 725 square metre flexible gallery is now complete and ready to originate and host some of the world’s best science exhibitions and experiences in the North, thanks to a generous £3.8 million grant from the DCMS and additional support from other funders.Designed by award-winning architectural practice Carmody Groarke, working alongside Manchester building contractor HH Smith & Sons, the transformation of the lower ground floor of the museum’s Grade II listed New Warehouse reveals grand industrial beauty with stunning modern and sustainable design.
Work is nearly complete to transform and preserve one of Newcastle’s most significant historical buildings. Grade II* listed Neville Hall on Westgate Road, known to most as The Mining Institute, is currently undergoing a two-year programme of works to preserve the building and create a new hub for innovation and engineering in Newcastle City Centre.
With all this and more, join us as we explore the impressive construction projects that continue to shape our landscape.
