New facility for A.G. Barr

AG Barr Production Warehouse- Milton Keynes

A £41 million project to construct a new manufacturing and logistics facility in Milton Keynes for leading soft drinks manufacturer A.G. Barr is nearing completion.

The facility – being constructed within the Magna Park development – is being created as part of build-to-suit project and comprises a warehouse, production facility and associated offices. The new building is one of only a few manufacturing facilities currently under construction in the UK and once complete will create approximately 100 new jobs in the local area.

Construction work on the structure of the new facility reached completion in February 2012. Moving forward, A.G. Barr – manufacturer of popular drinks IRN-BRU, Rubicon and TIZER – will now conduct an internal fit-out of the building, with work currently on schedule to reach completion in summer 2013.

Simons Construction Ltd is the main contractor on the project, whilst Chetwoods Architects is providing all architectural services. Leading global developing company Gazeley is the developer on the project.

In October 2012, executives from Gazeley and A.G. Barr attended the site to see how work was progressing, and along with members of the local council they noted how well the site was shaping up.

Commenting on the new 265,000 sq ft development, Gazeley UK County Director, Alex Verbeek, said:

“We pride ourselves on delivering on time and on budget to our clients. We are delighted to be adding such a renowned manufacturer to our roster of businesses based at our flagship UK development site in Milton Keynes and at the same time helping to boost local employment with the creation of new jobs.”

When fully utilised this facility will employ approximately 100 people from the local area. The investment we are making in Magna Park is a sign of our confidence in our future development plans and our commitment to the Milton Keynes area.”

Magna Park in Milton Keynes is Gazeley’s flagship UK development site and provides businesses with a high quality environment, with state-of-the-art logistics warehouse accommodation in a proven logistics location. Magna Park is a fully managed and landscaped environment and covers approximately 210 acres, with planning consent for 4.4 million sq ft. The business park is home to numerous high profile brands including River Island and John Lewis and can accommodate additional opportunities, ranging from 100,000 sq ft to 1 million sq ft.

With work currently making great progress on the new development for A.G. Barr, the company will soon be able to put the facility to use, strengthening its UK production arm. With an annual turnover of £237 million the company produces a large range of soft drinks, with three of its brands representing the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
