With over forty years of combined experience, 3 Interiors was founded in 2010 by Phillip Moorhead, Stephen Purdy and Brian Stevenson.

From the classical through to the contemporary, the Royal through to the restaurant, 3 Interiors provide superior fit-out and refurbishment solutions for a wide variety of clients and sectors.

3 Interiors have worked with world famous designers on several of London’s most prestigious hotels, creating rooms of unparalleled luxury. Perhaps most famously was the Royal Suite at The Goring Hotel, where Kate Middleton stayed the night before the Royal Wedding.

Joint Managing Director, Phillip Moorhead took some time to give Premier Construction an exclusive insight into the story behind the success. He said:

“Stephen and I had previously been directors of another interior company and had worked for many other similar companies in the past which had specifically focused on the London market.

“For over twenty years I, like Stephen, had worked extensively on interior design projects from residential in Athens to super yachts – we both have great experience in all aspects of interiors.

“Back in 2010 we set up 3 Interiors as the time was right to set up our own company. Even though the recession was in full swing by that time, we had a good contacts and a working relationship with clients in London.

“Since then  we have received a very positive reaction and have gone from success to success , growing the company progressively.”

Having enjoyed substantial growth since their formation, the company relocated their head office to a new modern facility in Lisburn Co Antrim, Northern Ireland. The office is fully equipped with all current industry software, IT and printing facilities. Being in Lisburn there is also easy access to both Belfast airports, which offer numerous daily flight connections to London and other UK destinations.

Does being based across the Irish Sea affect business? Phillip says not:

“Being based in Northern Ireland hasn’t affected our business in London at all, we are proving the point in London to our clients that you can be very cost effective, but still manage the whole process from Northern Ireland.”

Geography may not be a major issue to clients but what is?

Phillip added: “We believe it is incredibly important to strive to ensure that throughout a project the highest level of service and quality is delivered.

“We provide a dedicated and professional approach and a meticulous eye for detail, seeking always to build strong and lasting relationships with our clients. This attitude and the quality of the work we do has resulted in a significant amount of repeat business particularly in the Capital.”

Speaking specifically about the works carried out on The Goring Hotel and Claridge’s in London, Phillip said:

“In the Goring Hotel we transformed 5 bedrooms into the Royal Suite, named in recognition of their long association with The Royal Family. This coincidently was to be where the Middleton Family and the then Kate Middleton would spend the night prior to her marriage.

“When we were awarded the project we didn’t know the importance of the project. We were awarded the project as any other project would proceed but  as it was getting closer to completion  and the excitement about the Royal Wedding was growing we did become aware. The press began camping outside and the night before the wedding there were thousands of people outside the hotel!

“It was a great project to work on and we at 3 Interiors along with our clients were immensely pleased with the results.

“At Claridge’s we refurbished numerous suites and we completely refurbished the art-deco ball room and more recently we worked with Guy Oliver on the anteroom, the French salon and drawing room.

“We also worked on the exclusive DVF Suite which was designed by the famous New York fashion designer Diane Von Fürstenberg.”

Fürstenberg has been a regular guest at Claridge’s over the last 40 years and her legacy is now permanently preserved in the DVF Suite. Perhaps best known for her iconic wrap dress she re-launched her fashion company, Diane von Fürstenberg (DvF), in 1997 as a global luxury lifestyle brand – the company now offers four complete collections a year and is available in over 70 countries.

In 2005, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awarded her the Lifetime Achievement Award and the following year named her as their president, a position she has held since 2006.

Speaking on what it was like to work with such a world renowned brand, Phillip said:

“It was an absolute pleasure to work alongside Diane Von Fürstenberg’s design team, there was a great cohesion and we produced some great results.”

The Maybourne Group has also been a very good client for 3 Interiors along with Michael Blair of Blair Associate Architecture Ltd. Speaking about this relationship, Phillip said:

“We have been involved extensively with The Connaught Hotel on multiple schemes over their total refurbishment.”

In addition to high end luxury hotels, 3 Interiors do a lot of heritage work and have also recently completed the interior works on the quirky new Ping Pong Club come restaurant and bar, Bounce London.

Working alongside Russell Sage Studio, 3 Interiors created an energetic mixed playing and dining space which received rave reviews. Bar Chick said: “This bar has it all! The place has been decked out to be a stylish venue seating 130 guests in the restaurant with a huge view over the playing area. There are 17 table tennis tables including an official 2012 Olympic table”

Speaking about the Bounce London restaurant, Phillip said:

“We first worked alongside the Russell Sage Group on the Royal Suite at The Goring Hotel, the relationship just went on to develop from there. Most recently we worked with them on Bounce London, which used to be an old nightclub and was empty for quite a few years.

“Working on the venue was really something quite different for us which we very much enjoyed.”

In closing, Phillip revealed what 3 Interiors prides itself on:

“Quality, quality, quality! We are absolutely driven by quality and service. We stick to budget and we don’t go over the time scale – I think our work really speaks for itself, some of our finest high end clients in London are continually referring us on to people. Most importantly I think we’re a friendly bunch who can work well with people!”

Of course to ensure the seal of quality is met, a good team is essential and 3 Interiors certainly have that:

“Anybody who we bring on board or into the team, we know or have worked with before. We do really pull together as team, yes Stephen and I may be Managing Directors but we still get heavily involved with all aspects of day to day operations.”

SDE Decorators

A specialist high end painters and decorators, SDE Decorators were established in 1994 by Simon Eastop.

The company have worked alongside 3 Interior Contracts on variety of projects from five star venues such as Claridge’s and The Goring hotel through to luxury office spaces, restaurants and bars.

Speaking about the relationship with 3 Interiors, SDE Decorators Director, Simon Eastop said:

KMS ltd 

Established nearly a decade ago, KMS ltd are specialist contractors that supply and install industrial kitchen units- most prominently for high end hotels in the London area.

The company are proud to have worked closely with 3 interiors on several projects, including the Barkly Hotel and Calridge’s.  KMS mainly undertake the fitting of white rock, which is a white plastic that is used to clad kitchen walls.

Most recently KMS worked with 3 Interiors on the Bounce restaurant, so named as it offers visitors the chance to fill up on pizza whilst also having a game of table tennis.

 K&M Technical Services

Offering clients a full range of mechanical and electrical services- including design and installation through to full post contract maintenance services- K&M Technical Services are a fast expanding mechanical and electrical engineering business.

The company has worked across a range of projects with interior design contractors 3 Interior Contracts, from high end London hotels to sheik urban restaurants such as Bounce.

Work on the pizza come ping pong restaurant was completed in November last year and speaking about the work carried out on the venue, K&M Director, Lee Kirkwood said:

“We installed all the mechanical and electrical services in Bounce, including the air conditioning and ventilation systems, a gas system for the Wood Stone pizza oven, lighting systems including an intelligent lighting management system, audio / visual systems and security systems.

Manborne Furniture Design and Manufacture

With over 35 years experience designing and manufacturing custom built furniture, Manborne are the contractor of choice for some of the world’s most prestigious hotels.

The Savoy, Claridge’s, The Barclay and The Langley Hotel have all been given the expert touch by Manborne’s- most recently the company have added The Goring Hotel to their portfolio of work.

The company mainly specialise in bespoke free standing furniture which is constructed off site and then installed-anything from antique copies, to contemporary seating is undertaken Manborne.

Speaking about the work carried out on The Goring Hotel, Director, Justin Osborne said:

“We did all the furniture for the suites- so the headboards, dressing tables, wardrobes, chest of drawers etc.  Each suite was bespoke as they were individually designed and whilst some core items remained, they were still modified to create a unique feel in each room.”

Manborne worked alongside 3 Interior Contracts on The Goring and have since worked on several other projects with the company. On their relationship with 3 Interiors, Justin added:

“3 Interiors are a great contractor to work and you can guarantee that they will be on time. We get on well with them as people and we like the way that they want to get things done as fast as possible.”

Clements Hall Commercial

Clements Hall Commercial specialise in the supply and installation of commercial flooring. The company works across a broad range of projects, from hotels and office-fit outs, to schools and sports centres.

Clements Hall Commercial has been in operation for more than 20 years and is involved with many high profile projects including the award-winning Clapham One project, which included the library and health centre. Working with 3 Interiors, Clements Hall Commercial has supplied and installed flooring solutions to the Goring Hotel, as well as Claridges and the Connaught.

Commenting on the projects, Clements Hall Commercial Managing Director, Nick Hall, said:

Oakvale Parquet

Oakvale are specialists in bespoke parquet and contract flooring, offering the supply and installation of timber flooring for a range of projects, including hospitality, leisure and other commercial developments. The company has been in operation for more than 20 years and it sources products from all over the world.

Oakvale Parquet have provided services to many high profile projects including W Hotel in London –where it provided numerous installations throughout the building – and the iconic Titanic Visitor Centre in Belfast’s docklands.

Founded in 1895, Rathbanna are metal specialists, working with on a range of metalwork including copper, brass, bronze, stainless steel, pewter and zinc. Since its inception Rathbanna has worked on many high-end projects, including a number of 5 Star hotels in London, including The Mayfair Hotel, The Goring Hotel and Claridges. In addition, Rathbanna has provided specialist services for numerous Jurys Inn hotels.

Working with 3 Interior Contracts, Rathbanna complete all of the company’s specialist metal work, from brass and bronze, to nickel and chrome plating.

As part of the Lloyd Worral Group, Yannedis are architectural ironmongers boasting more than 101 years’ experience in the business. Yannedis has been involved in many prestigious projects, including Windsor Castle, St Pancras Station and the open air theatre in Regents Park and is currently working on the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool.

Working with 3 Interiors, Yannedis has provided specialist architectural ironmonger services for The Goring Hotel and Claridges, amongst others.
