As one of the most successful architectural design practices in Guernsey, PF+A Ltd is moving forward at a swift pace on a number of major town developments.
The company’s substantial expertise ranges from traditional and contemporary design as well as the technical skills to support the administration of construction.
PF+A directors Alex Whitmore, John Hibbs and Pete Falla pride themselves on their personable, down-to-earth approach and in this case their enviable designs for the townhouse terrace and crescent projects.
Two important projects for PF+A include residential developments in St Peter Port at Les Petites Fontaines (off Queen’s Road) and a new build to be named Infinity Crescent in Stanley Road.
Independent electrical contractor Island Electrics Ltd worked with PF+A on Les Petites Fontaines and is keen to get started on Infinity Crescent.
Working on Les Petites Fontaines, Island Electrics Ltd installed a good mix of environmentally friendly lighting systems, along with a number of bespoke lighting schemes, in order to provide the development with the ‘wow’ factor. Meanwhile, working on Infinity Crescent, Island Electrics Ltd will be providing the development with a full electrical installation which focuses on the provision of environmentally friendly LED lighting systems.
Island Electrics Ltd Managing Director, Richard Cowling, said:
“Our involvement with these projects is extremely important to us. We keep up to date with all the latest technological developments – which changes on an almost daily basis – and we are at the forefront of the most cutting edge electrical technology.”
Les Petites Fontaines
Working alongside the Infinity Group, PF+A have transformed the site of an open market development into four high-value modern terraced homes. Les Petites Fontaines reaches completion this Spring 2013 and is looking to be another successful project for PF+A.
Under the project, the existing two-storey, mid-century home that was previously housed on the site was demolished and the plot was divided into two sections. The first comprises two elegant Georgian-style houses, and the second comprises four large contemporary terraced town houses.
Discussing Les Petites Fontaines, Alex Whitmore, the principal designer on the project, commented:
“Offering stunning views of the neighbouring islands, the homes are a fairly contemporary twist on a Victorian terrace. We’ve designed the houses to be high-end, with special features like the ground floor curved glazing, which allows the homeowner to experience as much of the sea views in their main living areas. Quite rightly, during the early stages of development, they received a lot of attention. Now one has been sold and the remaining three have interest from purchasers.”
The homes were built in a modern style and the tasteful material palette includes a mix of reinforced concrete, block work, glass, slate and cedar cladding. Unusual for the island, each of the developments features a basement laundry and a secure underground garage with a car turntable.
In addition, a large kitchen/family room, first-floor lounge make up the substantial living areas. The master suite is on the whole of the top floor with en-suite and dressing room. In addition, each of the homes feature a curved-glass balcony and a recess balcony on each floor.
A real show-stopping feature is the in-house designed glass, walnut and steel staircase that runs through the core of the building which was installed by Stainless Steel Fabrications.
Some landscaping work was also included on the project, including the creation of a communal pathway and seating area to the front of the properties to reach the front entrances for visitors. Each house also has a private south-facing garden with a stone patio to the rear and curved sliding doors leading into the house.
John Nobes, Infinity Group, said:
“Although the underground works – namely the construction of the underground parking space – was rather tricky, the construction phase was relatively straightforward.
“This was one of the most exciting projects that we have worked on, due in part to the stunning sea views. It was also exciting to build this type of property in an urban environment, where they perhaps have not been seen before.
“Les Petites Fontaines is a key development for us and is one of the first developments that we have really put our stamp on. It was also great to work with PF+A once again, who we have established a loyal and successful working relationship with over the years.”
Situated on Stanley Road, St Peter Port, Infinity Crescent is set to become a stunning new development, comprising 11 affordable, contemporary homes. The two-bedroom houses will include a fantastic array of fixtures and fittings and will be ideal for first time buyers, downsizers or investors.
Each of the new units will include a stylish ground floor living area with integrated storage, kitchen and WC, whilst the first floor includes two spacious bedrooms and a shower room. The bedrooms will include Italian designer wardrobes, whilst the kitchen will include a full range of integrated high quality Siemens appliances.
In addition to the excellent features on offer inside the homes at Infinity Crescent, each unit has its own patio with hedge boundaries and access to a communal garden that will be installed into the centre of the curved development. Two underground parking spaces per dwelling are also being included as part of the landscaping work, along with an outdoor walkway that offers access to each property.
The timber-frame and airtight construction with a heat-recovery ventilation system all mean the project will be thermally efficient.
The site also includes the Georgian-style Infinity Terrace at the front, which is a run of four three-bedroom terraced houses and private fenced gardens. A new build one bedroom maisonette link-building is over an archway on the service road and has the same styling and high spec.
