Fresh look for The Croft Hotel

A project to refurbish The Croft Hotel in Croft-on-Tees, Darlington, has reached completion.

The project comprised the refurbishment of the site’s gastro pub, the installation of a new bar and the reconfiguration of the reception. In addition, twenty bedrooms and two function suites have recently been refurbished, whilst the old Coach House has been sympathetically restored to provide the perfect setting for The Croft Tea Rooms.

Work began on the final phase of the project in December 2012, after acquiring Listed Building Consent, with the first stages of work concentrating on giving the gastro pub a makeover. Following completion of the gastro pub, the hotel closed temporarily between New Year’s Day and the 25th of January in order to complete the remaining works, which comprised the bar and reception.

The project reached a successful conclusion at the end of January, thanks to carefully considered planning and is now open for business as usual.

Swan Dean was the main contractor on the project, whilst Sanderson Weatherall LLP was the project manager and provided all architectural services. Sanderson Weatherall LLP also provided all the planning services on the project, included the Listed Building application and Planning application.

Commenting on the project, Sanderson Weatherall LLP Associate Partner, Lee Sanderson, said:

“Our client is a private owner, who decided that The Croft required an update. The hotel is still known as The Croft, however it has been rebranded and bears little resemblance to what it looked like in its original form.

“The majority of the recent works were finishing works, such as a new bar, new lighting and the like. As we had a tight programme so we scheduled the project carefully to ensure that the work would run efficiently.

“The first phase of the project was to complete the gastro pub and this was mostly cosmetic works in order to really transform this area of the hotel.”

The Croft Gastro Pub & Private Dining serves up a bold menu of British cuisine, which comprises a hearty mix of signature modern and traditional dishes. The restoration of this key area of the hotel was carefully conducted to create the perfect place for guests to relax and enjoy a good meal.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s reception was redeveloped so that it could be placed within a more central location between both the rear entrance and the front entrance and the bar was reworked to increase the standing and seating area.

A small amount of external work was conducted on the project and this included decoration and associated signage. In addition, a new decked area was added and allows guests to exit the function room space.

Due to the building’s Listed status all of the work on The Croft was conducted carefully and some of the external work had to be revised in order to maintain the site’s unique heritage.

Lee said:

“Guests coming to The Croft will notice a significant difference in the appearance of the hotel. The Croft is a modern hotel, with a design that is relaxed and inviting.

“For us to be involved with this project was great. The Croft is a very prominent building which has been brought back into a much better use in order to maximise its potential.”

The Croft Hotel is a luxurious hotel, providing guests with an intimate stay close to Darlington. The hotel is close to Rockcliffe Hall and the Croft Circuit and boasts a stunning array of bedrooms that include flat screen LCD TVs and broadband access.

In addition to The Croft Hotel’s gastro pub, the hotel also includes The Croft Tea Rooms, which are situated in the north wing. Originally built in 1835 the Team Rooms recently benefitted from a restoration and now boast a team of dedicated patisserie chefs serving up a mouth watering selection of sweet treats.
