Mr Coopers House & Garden at The Midland

Mr Cooper's House & Garden, Midland Hotel, Manchester

A unique home from home dining experience has hit the streets of Manchester with the exciting opening of Mr Cooper’s House and Garden.

This new dining experience is located on the ground floor of the well established and prestigious Midland Hotel, Manchester.

This latest project follows on from the success of The French restaurant, which previously opened within this same luxury hotel back in March. Michelin Star chef Simon Rogan was the driving force behind this exciting new venture, having previously overseen The French.

Mr Coopers House and Garden is a completely different concept to The French, seating between 150-200 guests at any one time. Style Contracts was the main contractor on the project carrying out all aspects of design, fittings and decor. They have completed this challenge whilst working alongside Style Matters, part of the same company, who have produced all the exquisite furniture that is featured within the restaurant.

Dating back to the 18th Century the existing location was the site of a house owned by a Mr Cooper which provided the inspiration for this quirky and original restaurant.

Style Contracts Director, David Oulsnam demonstrated his enthusiasm for this project whilst explaining the idea behind the restaurant. He said: “This restaurant has a real individual concept, with it based on the home of Mr Cooper. Looking at the success of the French restaurant and knowing that Simon Rogan is involved in this venture demonstrates the real potential this site has.”

Mr Cooper’s has many outstanding features, including a new spacious bar area, a space designed to look like a library and one that replicates a study and a kitchen. The biggest surprise however is the internal, light and airy ‘garden’. This imaginative space brings the outside in, with a creative design and decor which adds to the personality that is evident throughout the restaurant.

The ‘garden’ area is a real focal point, striking and intriguing as soon as you enter the restaurant. Its endearing features include a wall of living plants, comfortable garden furniture and a 30 ft tree, complete with a tree seat, providing the central focal point. All these features work together to create an environment that make guests feel as if they are outside – which is very helpful when the weather is less than ideal.

Guests have the exciting and unique option of choosing in which of the varied environments they wish to dine in each time they visit Mr Cooper’s. The different areas feature varied seating options with curved seating, high ‘poser’ seating and booth areas, providing comfort for all diners from couples to large parties.

There are many advantages of the large spacious restaurant and the main change being the use of the large archway facing onto Mount Street, allowing Mr Coopers to be easily accessible. The archway offers access directly into the new bar area and restaurant in addition to access from the main hotel lobby for residents of the hotel.

Although this refurbishment was running on a very tight schedule the overall project proved a very smooth process. All of the work has ultimately been completed to a very high and professional standard and this is evident from the excellent feedback the restaurant has received.

Commenting on this transformation David Oulsnam, Director of Style Contracts, explained:

“Mr Cooper’s House and Garden was ultimately a fun and enjoyable project for us. Recently a lot of emphasis has been placed on newly established restaurants and bars in the Spinningfields area of the city, but Mr Cooper’s is an exciting opportunity which draws people back into the original city centre area.”
