One Canada Square

One Canada Square, Canary Wharf

One Canada Square Restaurant and Bar is set to open mid-October in the buzzing location of Canary Wharf.

The Ā£2 million London venue will be housed inside one of the Cityā€™s most iconic buildings: One Canada Square.

The venue boasts a 30-cover bar and a 100-cover restaurant with mezzanine floor and serves high quality food and drinks Monday to Friday. Whether it is breakfast you fancy or a formal business lunch, post-work cocktails or a relaxed dinner with the family, One Canada Square can provide for your every whim and fancy.

The bar and restaurant is the brainchild of Tom and Ed Martin who own ETM Group. ETM is a pub and restaurant group that currently own and operate 10 venues across Central London including smart City gastro pubs, contemporary brasserie/bars and small neighbourhood pubs; they areĀ also responsible for The Botanist restaurant and bar onĀ Sloane Square.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality about the new venture Tom Martin said:

ā€œOne Canada Square is our biggest investment to date and has been designed to provide a smart and elegant backdrop to appeal not only to Canary Wharf professionals but also to destination diners and drinkers during the evenings, for weekend brunch and Saturday evening diners.

ā€œWe have designed the mezzanine level specifically for private events for stand up drinks parties or seated private dining.Ā

ā€œWe have a fantastic team of people on board, many of whom have worked with ETM for a number of years at our other sites. We have appointed ex Ivy Club Head Chef Jamie Dobbin to head up the kitchen team and have been working with him now for the past six months or so.ā€

One Canada Square tower in Canary Wharf is an impressive venue spanning 50 floors and stretching 244 metres into the air. The iconic building usedĀ 27,500 metric tonnes of British Steel and 500,000 bolts during its construction which is illustrative of its vast size.

David Collins Studio, an Architectural based consultancy,Ā has been involved in many high profile projects including Claridgeā€™s Bar in Mayfair in London, Gordon Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road, The Wolseley on Piccadilly and and Alexander McQueen in London, Miami, Hong Kong and China.

The Studio have achieved great things with One Canada Square by working around the three marble columns of stepped fascia in the restaurant space and erecting an imposing polished mirrored pewter bar with a marble columned back bar.

Behind the bar stands an impressive winding staircase which leads up to a mezzanine area reserved for individuals wanting a more private dining experience. The walls are panelled with ribbed timber, and drum shaped Art Deco inspired chandeliers hang above the bar.

The venueā€™s lighting has been specifically designed to create the perfect ambience in the restaurant during the day and night. The seating, also from David Collins Studio, was inspired by vintage car designs and so comprise of ribbed upholstery and contrast piping; whilst the herringbone patterned tabletops and timber flooring carries on this retro feel.

With the colours already existing in the venue in mind, a mixture of British racing green leather has been used and ox blood leather; both are designed to tone with the Verde Imperial marble and the Rosso Lavento marble.

Colin Bromham from Keytask Management Limited managed the project. Tom Martin said that Colinā€™s efforts have been invaluable and his tireless work has been a considerable help during the project.Ā

The project has been especially difficult due to its location in the lobby of a very busy office building. Therefore all works have had to take place throughout the night as have all deliveries. Despite these complications the project is almost completed, and due to open in mid-late October, with just the finishing touches and staff training to be carried out.

The buzzing business district of Canary Wharf is the perfect home for this new venue; co-founder of ETM Group, Tom Martin said:

ā€œWe have been looking for a site in Canary Wharf for several years now and are delighted to have been given the opportunity by our landlord, Canary Wharf Group plc to launch a brand new restaurant and cocktail bar at the epicentre of Canary Wharf. We love this dynamic and constantly developing area and the customer base is exactly what ETM is geared towards.ā€

Tom added:

ā€œOne Canada Square is very different to some of our other venues. We have transformed the north western corner of the lobby of the iconic No.1 Canada Square office tower to create a stunning David Collins Studio-designed cocktail bar and modern European restaurant on two levels.

ā€œSeeing all our hard work over the past months finally come to fruition is extremely exciting. However, as with all our projects, the hard work really starts on the day we open the doorsā€.
