Transforming Frank’s

Frank’s International N.V. is a global oil services company, providing a comprehensive range of highly engineered tubular services to leading exploration and production companies.

Founded in 1938, Frank’s International N.V. provides services for both offshore and onshore projects, in approximately 60 countries and on six continents.

At present Frank’s International N.V. is implementing a series of works to its base facilities at Hareness Circle, Aberdeen, in order to improve services. The works comprise the refurbishment of existing facilities at Altens Industrial Estate, alongside two newly acquired industrial units which are located adjacent to the existing site.

Works within the existing facility include the introduction of a concrete ramp to form a one-way system for vehicles delivering and collecting from the base as well as the re-augmentation of the workshop to create a more efficient process for maintaining rental equipment.

New overhead cranes are to be installed to the existing workshop and two new test and inspection pits are being introduced for disassembly and reassembly. The new overhead cranes include two 10t KONE wireless controlled cranes and three 1.5t swing jib cranes, which will be supported by new concrete foundations.

Additional works on Frank’s existing facility include the replacement and renewal of existing concrete yard panels and the installation of a new CCTV system. Meanwhile, the newly acquired industrial units – workshops 5/6 and 7/8 – are undertaking significant refurbishment works.

Workshops 5/6 cover an area of 19250 square feet and include 4700 sq foot of office and 14500 sq foot of workshop space. The works on this aspect of the scheme include the re-sheeting of the existing roof structure; the implementation of a number of electrical installations to provide a full fabrication shop; and the installation of four overhead KONE cranes, along with new concrete foundations and supporting steel works.

Existing office space within workshops 5/6 will be transformed into new offices for Frank’s International N.V.’s engineering division and seven new welding and fabricator bays will be installed. All associated electrics and ventilation equipment for the welding and fabrication bays is also being installed.

To complete the transformation of workshops 5/6 the site’s existing supervisor’s office is being reworked, along with the canteen and locker rooms.

The refurbishment of workshops 7/8 will see the office spaces given a makeover, whilst the workshop will receive a general ‘tidy up’, which is being implemented to provide long term storage and training facilities for Frank’s International N.V.

Aberdeen based company Sheiling Projects Ltd is the project manager, whilst Ian Rodgers Architects is providing all architectural services and McCue & Porter is the quantity surveyor. The Keenan Consultancy is the mechanical and electrical consultant and GWS Architects is the CDMC co-ordinator.

Anderson Construction is undertaking all the building work on the project, whilst R&D Services is responsible for carrying out the mechanical and electrical works. Meanwhile, MTM Construction is involved with the civils works to the yard, ramp and the crane bases and Geddes Group Arbroath is completing the remaining civils works.

Frank’s International has eight offices around the world, with bases in England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Kazakhstan and Norway, as well as its regional headquarters in Scotland.
