Renowned Michelin starred chef and restaurateur Jason Atherton, working in partnership with Restaurant Associates, has unveiled City Social, within iconic skyscraper Tower 42. Situated in the heart of London, the 90 cover venue features art deco style interiors, created by award winning designers Russell Sage Studios, against the backdrop of the stunning London skyline from its location on the 24th floor.
City Social opened on the 1st May 2014 and has provided the nation’s capital with a fantastic new eating establishment, which is already creating a buzz in the city.
Jason Atherton commented:
“I was really excited to work with Restaurant Associates on City Social within Tower 42. Guests walk into my restaurant from the lifts and immediately see the Gherkin, The Cheesegrater, and all those iconic buildings that have shot up in London over the past decade, right in front of your eyes. The restaurant serves beautiful cuisine in a glamorous environment.”
Andy Harris, Managing Director of Restaurant Associates, commented:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have teamed up with Jason Atherton at Tower 42. We’ve worked closely with the Tower for many years and the launch of City Social was the perfect next step for this partnership. The magnificent views that this London landmark has to offer, combined with Jason’s international culinary experience is sure to delight diners.”
Working with Jason Atherton, Russell Sage Studios has created a contemporary art deco look for City Social. Russell Sage Studios is an expert interior designer and brand architect working with hotels, bars, restaurants and lifestyle brands in the UK and Europe. Russell Sage Studios has created an elegant venue with fine simple finishes including accents of brass and mirror, which sit alongside rosewood panelled boards, chrome and smoked glass.
Tony Sandles Glass Ltd was responsible for the supply and installation of bevelled glass mirrors throughout City Social. Tony Sandles had previously hand made antiqued mirrors for some of the chef’s other restaurants, including the Social Eating House, and has worked on several projects with Russell Sage Studios.
Diners are able to enjoy incredible views of London from wherever they are seated. The focal point of the restaurant is the free standing, dramatic black and steel open kitchen in the centre of the dining room. Here, guests are able to dine at the chef’s table while watching the kitchen team at work.
Head chef Paul Walsh – who was previously the Sous Chef at Royal Hospital Road – has worked closely with Jason Atherton to design the City Social menu which features creative yet simple dishes, showcasing the best of British ingredients. Meanwhile, complementing the dishes are the suited and booted staff whose bespoke suites have been provided by Savile Row Master Tailor, Steven Hitchcock.
The City Social bar seats 85 people and in keeping with the design will serve a selection of cocktails inspired by 1910-1930s prohibition era. Award winning mixologist Gareth Evans (head barman at The Blind Pig, Atherton’s bar located above Social Eating House) has designed a simple, short, spirit based selection of cocktails featuring Scotch and American whiskies, gins and cognacs. Akin to Atherton’s other bars, drinks are classic in their approach and are served in short glasses with a selection of Champagne cocktails on offer.
Sommelier Christopher Delalonde – previously at the Prescott and Conran group – is on hand to guide diners through the wine list and Andy Downton – previously at Claridge’s and D&D London’s The Old Bengal Warehouse – has joined the team as general manager.
City Social restaurant is open for lunch from 12 noon until 2:45pm and for dinner from 6pm to 10:30pm. The City Social bar is open 12 noon until 11pm.
