Worden View, Euxton, Chorley, NHBC Awards

Worden View site in Euxton, Chorley has been awarded a Pride in the Job Award and a Health and Safety Award from the National House Building Council due to the development’s quality.

Stewart Milne Homes are the site owners and are currently on site acting as the principal contractor and designer during the 56 unit development.

Works have been underway for 16 months and are set to complete by December 2014. Premier Construction caught up with Martin Sharkey, Site Manager at Stewart Milne Homes, to find out more about the project:

“Stewart Milne bought the site off British Aerospace, which used to be an old ammunition plant, and have 12 units to build before the end of the project. I have been on the site since the beginning as it is my first project for Stewart Milne; so far we have won five NHBC awards on this site which is great!

“It is hard to put into words what these latest awards mean. I strive to do well in my career and so I am very pleased. This award spurs me on to do well in the future; especially as we have just discovered we have been nominated for a Seal of Excellence Award in October 2014.”

The onsite team initially installed a standard strip foundation in the ground, before laying the slab which the timber frame structure rests on. Stewart Milne Homes owns the timber frame structure which is used for all of the buildings on their sites.

The structure takes just 12 days to assemble including the roof fitting so it is a much quicker process than traditional building methods. Once the timber frame was erected the building was bricked up and the onsite team then moved on to the property’s interiors. All properties have been carpeted, fenced and completed to a high specification ensuring that buyers move into a high quality home.

The Worden View site comprises two, three and four bed semi-detached and detached properties. The Dukeswood model is a standard large four bed detached property fitted with an integral garage at the front of the property.

Upon entering the front door a large living room area is situated complete with a bay window; next door to the lounge there is a downstairs cloak room and located as the rear of the property there is an open plan family dining room and kitchen area. The kitchen space lies opposite some impressive French doors which lead onto the property’s garden.

Upstairs the unit houses four bedrooms, three of which have been completed with fitted wardrobes.

Martin added that the land also contains other sites being developed by other house builders. He said that the developers all work in conjunction with each other and are a tight knit community which aids the smooth running of all projects in the area.

Some of the Worden View properties were bought off plan, however many of them have been bought due to home owners hearing of Stewart Milne’s quality reputation offline or by word of mouth. Martin said that Stewart Milne’s reputation for quality is far reaching:

“All of the subcontractors working on our sites know what is required because our standards are very high. This award has been great for me, as well as the onsite team who are as proud to be recognised. I have a really good team which is great!”

The development is located in Euxton village close to the new Buckshaw Village with its plethora of brand new facilities, including a Tesco food store and railway station. Worden View is also close to the more established village of Euxton hosting a number of good quality and varied eateries. The nearby towns of Chorley and Leyland provide a good selection of amenities and restaurants and public houses.

The brand new Buckshaw Parkway railway station is within easy reach as are an array of local authority schools including infant, primary and secondary within the surrounding areas; Runshaw College is just a short drive from the development.

Those moving into a house at the Worden View site benefit from excellent road and rail connections. Junction 28 of the M6 is just a mile from the development whilst junction 8 of the M61 is little more than 2 miles, providing road users with easy access to most destinations throughout the North West and entire motorway network thereafter.

Eric Fowler specialise in ceramic wall and floor tiling and produced and installed all of the tiling at the award winning development.

Premier Construction caught up with Eric Fowler, the company’s Proprietor and Director, to find out what it meant to be involved in this project:

“It was great to work with Stewart Milne Homes; we deliver a quality service at a reasonable price.”

Fitfield Ltd specialises in groundworks and has been in operation for over 20 years. The firm has also been involved in the Worden View site in Chorley. Premier Construction spoke to John Maxwell, the firm’s Managing Director, to find out more.

John said:

“We undertook all of the groundworks on the site which included digging the foundations, putting the slabs and drains in, before putting the externals in, drives, flagging, and the installation of top soil.

“It was great for us to be involved with the award winning site.”

John added that the firm pride themselves on delivering quality services and products.
