Bowie, Madonna, Iggy Pop – some of the greatest music icons are masters of reinvention…. so K West Hotel & Spa has decided to follow suit.

The hotel has recently undergone a dramatic interior refurbishment designed to reflect its rich music heritage and history of musicians playing and staying at the hotel.

Concept Textiles Ltd was appointed as the soft furnishings contractor on K West, for a 219-bedroom refurbishment late last year. Concept Textiles Ltd is a bespoke hotel soft furnishings specialist, providing hotel’s with a range of soft furnishings including curtains, headboards, cushions, bed throw, full upholstery and project management.

Concept Textiles Ltd project managed the scheme from design to build to completion on behalf of K West.

Warren Stimson, Director of Concept Textiles Ltd, said:

“The project was important to us as it allowed us to showcase our versatility for complete project management, bespoke furniture to soft furnishing delivery with a number of high quality products. We managed and delivered the complete project from start to finish from appointing designers IND Creation to the contractors. Everybody worked as a close team to visualize the design from our client’s brief into reality.”

Formerly the BBC Building Kensington House in the 60s, an endless list of Rock ‘N’ Roll royalty has stayed, played and misbehaved at K West – Bob Marley and the Wailers, Bowie, The Kinks and Roxy Music to name a few.

The hotel’s redecoration encompasses the new two-floor Studio Bar & Kitchen, and multi-functional Library Room, which will pay tribute to the music heritage through bold artwork and bookshelves filled with books on iconic musicians and rock bands.

On the ground floor by the entrance, The Studio Bar has been given a moody, music-infused atmosphere come the evenings, with industrial style pendant lamps hanging low over a raised table.

The polished dark walnut-wood flooring brings warmth to the area, which is opened up with the use of floor-to-ceiling mirrored pillars and relaxed seating arrangements.

Concept Textiles bespoke furniture has been used to create high backed booth seating along the back wall, separated by silver and black voile curtains to create intimate VIP style corners. Chic black and white artwork depicting musicians hangs above each booth, with punchy contrasting accents of colour adding vibrancy. Textured silver wallpaper by Newmor (Dixon Turner) gives the bar a modern edge.

By day, Studio Bar is a light and airy space for creative media meetings over coffees and laptops. Plugs are fitted conveniently by seats; ensuring meetings never run out of charge, and a ‘Geek Hub’ laptop bar with complimentary Mac PC’s for guests to use can be found tucked into a snug area around the corner from the bar.

On the mezzanine floor above the bar, The Studio Kitchen has been transformed into an informal eatery with an urban New York vibe. This is continued in the menu which now offers a range of US style burgers like the Green Chilli Cheese Burger and the Californian Chicken.

Edgy city landscape sketches stretch along the walls, mirrored by a quirky wave of banquet seating hugging the back of the room. Sprinklings of filament light bulbs suspended on individual wires add an abstract, arty feel to the room.

The library has been redesigned to complement the front of house bar, providing a relaxed, informal and creative atmosphere which can be completely sealed off from the buzz of the bar with black and silver drapes suspended between a giant wooden frames.

Statement Andy Warhol style artwork depicting Amy Winehouse is displayed at one end of the room, and guests can relax on comfy Up-cycled charcoal grey sofas and armchairs. Against the opposite wall, a large flatscreen TV sits in the centre of floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, which display an eye-catching collection of coffee table books. The Library will be a multifunctional space which will be used for screenings, events, pop-ups and various other antics as well as providing a chill space for guests.

inD Creations

K West Hotel prides itself with a music heritage and a history of some of our favourite famous musicians staying at the hotel. That is what makes K West so unique. inD Creation’s design concept aims to highlight the music atmosphere throughout the space and also aims to create an inviting ambience that guests would want to spend time in.

inD Creations achieved this by creating a moody but comfortable atmosphere through the use of dark colours with punchy contrasting accents of electric colour and strategically placed and controlled mood lighting. There is a holistic approach to the design as the music theme is also carried out through the artwork and selection of books in the library.

The new layout of the space allows for groups of people to get together in cosy corners and feel a bit private without being secluded from the rest of the space. This gives the guests a VIP feeling and makes the space feel a lot larger. This has been done by designing bespoke curtain screens as subtle dividers.

The space planning also allows for flexibility so that the space can be used for breakfast but also as a lounge bar space that works both during the day and the evenings. This is achieved by using a combination of different seating styles; the space allows for lounge seats, dining seats and bar stools. The different heights allow for different functions and creates a dynamic atmosphere.
