Dalyell site, located in Brixton, encompasses a distinctive collection of three chic apartments, within a fine Victorian house.

The project commenced in June 2014, and was complete in April 2015, preceding a victorious win for Kingsbury Construction, having gained an NHBC Award.

Traditionally built from brickwork and blockwork, the new builds are set over the ground floor, first floor and second floor, accompanied by attractive front gardens to the ground floor and pleasant balconies to the first and second floor apartments.

Construction of the site involved the utilisation of main materials such as solid concrete slabs, a high standard finish on wooden floors and large format ceramic tiles placed in wet areas to deliver an attractive, quality interior. Modern composite windows have also been integrated within the properties, offering a low-maintenance solution with excellent sound and thermal insulation.

Contemporary fully fitted kitchens have been built into the apartments, along with laminate worktops, integrated fridge and dishwasher and brushed stainless steel single oven, ceramic hob and hood. Meanwhile, the bathrooms are fitted with thermostatic showers, stylish glass shower screens and tasteful LED downlights.

The ground and first floor flats include two bedrooms and the second floor property has one bedroom. The external works that main contractor Kingsbury Construction carried out involved the integration of external boundary walls, front gardens and construction of the balconies. Solar panels were fitted to the roof, providing the clients with an energy efficient feature to the apartments.

Premier Construction spoke to Site Manager Harish Patel, of Kingsbury Construction, to ask a few questions regarding the Dalyell site. Harish commented:

“The project was a challenging one, with lots of phases to carry out before the deadline; however it was a very good development to work on.”

He added:

“Our team is a great team to work with, which helps to bring the project together efficiently and maintain a good working atmosphere.”

Kingsbury Construction specialises in new builds and refurbishments, delivering many jobs for the Council and housing estates, in addition to private developments. Prior to the Dalyell site, the company completed a set of 13 new build units as part of a housing scheme, based in Isleworth, over the duration of a year and a half.

Harish has worked with Kingsbury Construction for three years, as part of a team that guarantees a service that meets very high standards, without compromise for any project costs or budgets. A great team that maintain momentum to complete developments within the deadlines, the establishment continues to preserve its reputation of being a trusted contractor.

With regards to the NHBC Pride in the Job Award that Harish received for the completion of Dalyell, he said:

“It was a great achievement, and a very nice surprise! I didn’t know we had achieved so much, however it was a great way to acknowledge that we are working to the standards we should be.”

Offering a thriving lifestyle, Brixton combines culture with contemporary living. For bands, performing at the famous Academy is one of the landmarks of success, and the local galleries often see artists gathering together. The heart of Brixton contains a constant buzz in the air, from music to art, to social endeavours.

Market on Electric Avenue – the first market street to be lit by electricity, is an innovative concept, with an abundance of attractions and activities available. Boutiques, vintage clothing stores, fascinating street art, intriguing bars and clubs invite the locals and visitors of the village to partake in a flourishing social lifestyle – with something new to try each day. Offering a range of mouth-watering street foods from around the world, the stalls are also very popular.
