Coton End Primary School refurbished, Warwickshire

Children and staff at the largest primary school in Warwickshire have returned this term to a newly refurbished internal area and learning space, thanks to Ashe Construction.

Coten End Primary School in Coten End is being refurbished and extended by the local contractor. The finished building will include six new classrooms, new toilets, a cloakroom area, staffroom and office spaces as well as a new practical area.

The works, which began in February 2014, have been split into five phases. Ashe Construction recently finished the third phrase of the project, which allowed a brand new internal area to be opened, just in time for the start of the new school year.

The school currently has 496 pupils. After the extension work is complete, it will eventually be able to take up to 654 pupils.

Co-Head Teacher at the school Hellen Dodsworth said:

“This is a very exciting time for our school and we are delighted with the building work which has been completed so far.

“Everyone has worked together to minimise the impact of the work and the children, parents and staff are very pleased with their new and improving accommodation. We are really looking forward to everything being completed and we are very excited to see the finished school.”

Ashe Construction site manager for the extension works, Mark Skillington, said he was looking forward to seeing all the completed extensions and also felt pleased to have been part of such a significant project.

He said: “We’re now into phase four of our work, which involves the extension of the upper school hall, extending two of the existing classrooms and refurbishing two more classrooms, as well as the kitchen and toilets.

“The extensions fit really well with the older buildings and are sympathetic to their character and charm. We’ve really enjoyed working with the school – the staff and children have been fantastic while the work has been carried out and we can’t wait to deliver their new, improved home to them when the project is finished.”

Ashe manages the design and construction of buildings for public and private sector clients nationwide. The family firm was founded in 1972 and now has offices in Hertfordshire and Leicestershire, from which it serves a great diversity of markets and industries with schemes which require new construction, internal and external refurbishment, alterations and fit outs.
