The Alchemist, Greek Street, Leeds, Bar

Adventurous and unconventional, The Alchemist has just opened in Greek Street, Leeds, bringing a touch of magic with a stylish new venue set to become the major new cocktail and dining  destination in the city.

Owned by Living Ventures and designed by HCM Interiors, The Alchemist is located in a transformed space previously occupied by the Prohibition bar, and primarily caters for Leeds’ extensive business community

Elegantly delivering The Alchemist’s trademark of molecular mixology, alchemy and craftsmanship, the new venue offers an impressive selection of cocktails including the renowned Smokey Old Fashioned and the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, to name but a few. The menu includes Alchemist specials such as prawn lollipops, sticky beef salad and special fried chicken in a basket.

The dramatic grand entrance features copper panels and cascading lighting, whilst the spacious, elegantly designed interior is split into two sections, with a social bar area on the right hand side, incorporating sharing tables and a cosy sofa area, and the other half of the venue being occupied by a restaurant area.

The interior design features a colour scheme of rich honey tones, with bespoke furniture and artwork give a unique and decadent edge.

Dawnvale had the pleasure, to be commissioned for the design, manufacturing and installation of both the bar and the kitchen area of The Alchemist.

Neil Guest, Managing Director for Dawnvale said:

“It’s fantastic to be involved in such a recognisable and respected brand. Alchemist has already made its mark with the Leeds Trinity site, which we had the pleasure to work on. Greek Street holds special memories for many people in Leeds and Alchemist will certainly cement itself as one of the best dinning and nightlife destinations in the city.”

The food and cocktail menus are a major attraction, with tempting dishes on offer including salads such as spiced Persian, sticky beef, apple, walnut and gorgonzola, and watermelon and Laksa chicken curry, plus fajitas served with sautéed peppers and onions on a hot skillet, with warm tortillas, guacamole, sour cream and tomato salsa – just to name a few.

All day desserts include Belgian waffles with cinnamon, sugar and vanilla ice cream, warm chocolate fudge cake, salted caramel cheese cake, sticky toffee pudding, Peach Melba Mess, and Affogato (a smoking combination of vanilla ice cream, Amaretto and ristretto).

The Alchemist’s mixologists use a variety of molecular drinks-making techniques to create masterpieces such as Caremelised Rum Punch with demerara sugar and Santa Teresa Rhum Orange set on fire and caramelised with nutmeg, cinnamon, lime juice, Appleton VX, watermelon syrup and pineapple juice; Indigo Sunset with Ketel One, rose and lychee with a citrus kick and a little surprise in store; White Chocolate and Raspberry Martini with raspberry vodka, raspberry liqueur, cranberry juice and white chocolate foam, and Alcheseltzer with Bombay Dry, pink grapefruit liqueur, orange flower water and lemon juice.

Simon Potts, Managing Director of The Alchemist, said:

“Greek Street holds special memories for many people in Leeds, including myself, but it’s an area that has been quiet for a number of years. We are excited to be bringing our brand of mixology to this quarter of the city centre, and in a location perfect for business meetings during the day and discerning drinkers during the evening.”

The Greek Street site is the company’s fifth venue and is one of a string of new arrivals for the area.

The Alchemist Bars and Restaurants are an all day haven – open for coffee, brunch, lunch, dinner and cocktails. The venues are beautifully designed and underpinned by a sense of theatre.
