Wenlock Road – Affordable London Homes

Wenlock Road

One Housing has a new development in Hackney, comprising 104 homes and a number of spacious retail office units.

The privately funded, £46million project, involved a demolition and the construction of a complete new build structure. A fit-out of retail units and dwellings also forms part of the project.

The redevelopment of Wenlock Road and the Brewery Industrial Estate in Hackney will provide homes in one of London’s most sought-after boroughs. Sitting within fashionable East London, residents will have access to theatres, bars and restaurants, as well as the newly refurbished Wenlock Arms pub that forms part of the Brewery development.

The Wenlock Road development will provide 74 luxury homes of which 68 will be for private sale and six for shared ownership. These sought-after properties will have commercial space on the ground floor.

Meanwhile the Brewery development, which sits across the road from Wenlock Road, is a beautiful courtyard development of duplex houses and flats with a central communal garden, which will create 30 affordable homes – 21 for social rent and 9 for shared ownership.

One Housing is a not-for-profit group, specialising in the building and sale of new homes on the open market, including commercial rented properties. The income raise for each dwelling is reinvested to create further affordable homes, as well as services for customers.

Group Director of Development at One Housing, Alan Williams, said:

“This development is a great example of how we can deliver luxury homes in London’s best locations while retaining our not-for-profit focus. The site is in the heart of an enviable location that brims with history, fashionable new restaurants and great transport connections. By taking the profits from the luxury homes we have created 30, much needed, affordable places for Londoners to live.”

One Housing is also London’s largest provider of support, housing and services to people with complex needs. The group is committed to helping more people, from all backgrounds, to find an affordable home in London and the South East.

As well as those who’ve traditionally had access to ‘social housing’ such a those on the lowest incomes, One Housing want to help working people – bus drivers, nurses, teachers, shop workers and the thousands of people like them – to have decent housing in areas where they want to live. This is not just good for the people who benefit directly – it’s good for London, the surrounding areas and communities.
