Kingston Plaza

Kingston Plaza

Kingston Plaza is a brand new student accommodation development situated on Kingston Hill, featuring 130 student rooms and large communal spaces, perfect for socialising and relaxing. The accommodation is ideal for students studying at Kingston University, St Mary’s University, Roehampton and Richmond Universities.

Stylish and contemporary, all 130 studio rooms have en-suites and are equipped with the latest high-speed fibre optic broadband, kitchenettes, a study space and a small dining area. The intricate design of these rooms maximises comfort and storage whilst incorporating plush materials. Quality kitchen essentials are integrated within the kitchen including microwave oven, fridge, freezer, cooking hobs and extractor fan.

Just a short walk from the town centre and main transport connections to Central London, Kingston Plaza boasts style, comfort and a prime location. The K2, K3 and 85 bus routes are also easily accessible from the accommodation, making it trouble-free for students heading to Kingston University’s Penrhyn Campus.

CNM Estates carried out the development including the interior and exterior, taking on the role as the main contractor and delivering an impressive end product to Kingston Hill. Premier Construction discussed the new developments with James Robson, Project Director at CNM Estates, who revealed:
“The project commenced on site in September 2014 and was completed by October 2015, with a construction value of approximately £7m.
“Kingston Plaza is a truly unique student accommodation development, meticulously designed and built to allow the ultimate balance between studio rooms and communal living.
“On the ground floor there is 3500ft² of open-plan communal space which includes a large games area with a pool table and football table, innovative work pod systems, general seating area with fridges and drinks facilities, and seating around a large widescreen TV for 20 people. Additionally, there is a large-scale shared kitchen which can be reserved by students for entertaining a large number of guests, for birthdays and parties, for example.
“From the communal area there are large bi-folding doors that open out onto the terrace, which is another fantastic benefit of the development, with Astroturf and tables, and a number of benches for people to eat and chat with friends.

“In terms of construction, as prices were increasing our biggest challenge was trying to keep within the budget that was set the previous year, when the original main contractor was appointed. Unfortunately, during early 2015 the well-known national corporation went into liquidation and subsequently we lost the privilege of fixing prices in advance. Whilst contending with around six weeks of downtime, and having to pick up over the summer period, trying to stick to the original programme and meeting the deadline of a September completion date was difficult.

James added:
“Initially we started as a developer who would appoint a main contractor, but in the face of adversity have now built our own construction arm which has given us another opportunity to grow, and to address increasing construction prices head on, which is a great asset.”
