Gino D’Acampo Leeds
Celebrity chef, Gino D’Acampo has announced that he will open more restaurants within the UK, starting with the launch of his new restaurant in Leeds which is set to open later this year.
Teaming up with one of the UK’s leading restaurant operators, the Individual Restaurants Company, the UK’s favourite Italian chef will open his third “My Restaurant” site, stepping- up the pace with further new restaurant openings in 2017.
The Leeds site follows the successful launch of the ‘My Restaurant’ concept in Manchester’s newly refurbished Corn Exchange in December 2015, which was followed quickly by a second restaurant in Euston Station, London that opened in February this year.
The ‘My Restaurant’ brand comes just two years after the launch of the chef’s Gino D’Acampo – My Pasta Bar concept, which has three central London sites at Fleet Street, Leadenhall Market and Bishopsgate. ‘My Pasta Bar’ serves a variety of Italian favourites with fresh, handmade pasta dishes and hand-stretched pizzas available to eat in or take away.
Situated on Park Row in Leeds, the two-storey, 6770ft2 restaurant was formerly Piccolino, which will be moving to a much larger site in the city. It will serve ‘real Italian food’ and feature an open kitchen, lower ground cocktail and wine bar that can house 46 covers, and an eat-at deli bar. The new 150-cover restaurant will be open seven days a week and serve lunch until late.
The interior design of the restaurant has been developed by renowned interior designers Carroll Design of Manchester. The Leeds site is designed with Gino’s passion for his homeland of Southern Italy in mind. Using white marble, washed woods and green leather the restaurant has a relaxed Mediterranean feel.
The design is an evolution of the Gino brand concept. Based on a soft timber aesthetic, which is contrasted with industrial hot rolled steel, it creates an atmospheric dining experience. This concept started with the Manchester site, and has been developed from site to site. The furniture is based on the aforementioned industrial metal theme, but juxtaposed with a natural Oak finish, and a Green leather upholstery which is inspired by the signature colour of the iconic speedboats by Riva.
The exterior work for the Leeds site has included the replacement of the signage throughout in order to incorporate the Gino cold cathode signage. Brand messaging and feature Cold cathode signage runs throughout the ‘My Restaurant’ brand, highlighting features such as the “My Friends and Family” feature wall, a collection of showbiz snapshots from Gino’s travels.
As the restaurant was previously trading as a restaurant, challenges were kept to a minimum in terms of the physical aspects of the refurbishment. The project has been designed with speed in mind, in order to keep downtime to a minimum, and achieve an opening prior to the busy Christmas period. Extensive structural alterations that were required offered some challenges when working with the accelerated programme.
Even with such a tight schedule, the interior design of the restaurant managed to incorporate unique features that help to set it apart from its competitors. The marquee feature of this site is the staircase wine wall, which can house up to 600 bottles of wine. Spanning 1.5 storeys, it is sure to make a distinctive impression as soon as customers enter the restaurant.
The Deli display counter, which is also set within the entrance area, is designed to highlight Gino’s commitment to quality produce. Chefs will be manning the deli counter, producing items from the menu, right in front of the guests, who can choose to sit at the deli counter for a unique dining experience.
The site will also feature Gino’s signature Book displays, where guests are able to purchase signed copies of all Gino’s cookbooks. The menu itself is based on the recipes in the books, with each menu item referencing the book and page number, allowing guests to replicate their meal at home.
With the promise of real Italian food made the way it is supposed to be, and prices being kept affordable for everyone, the Leeds site is set to be a real treat in the city’s food offering. The menu will compromise a collection of well sourced, seasonal and artisan ingredients as well as being packed full with favourite meals from Gino’s books and TV programmes.
Carroll Designed added, “It is a pleasure to work with such a high profile client, who invests in our vision for their brand.”
Focusing on affordable, Italian food, Gino is planning to expand the My Restaurant concept to further UK sites and is contemplating international expansion. This is in part thanks to the ‘My restaurant’ brand being crowned the best Italian Restaurant in the North West. The brand won the category for ‘Best Italian Restaurant over 50 Seats’ within the English Italian awards.
