Notcutts Garden Centre Staines

Notcutts Garden Centre in Staines revealed its new look in time for Christmas last year after a special ribbon cutting celebration attended by local dignitaries. The first phase of a two part development at the location, the work involved creating a new-look restaurant as well as increasing the indoor retail space.

The modern design of the new restaurant has created a calm and tranquil environment and includes individual counters to minimise queuing as well as a variety of different seating areas to suit individual needs.

The new restaurant has capacity for up to 270 people and features a seasonal menu, consisting of a selection of homemade dishes using fresh local produce, all made by a team of highly skilled chefs. Trained baristas are also now on hand at the Staines store to create artisan coffees and speciality teas. The new menu offers a wider choice than before, from sausage and mash to pulled pork baps.

Partnerships with local butchers and greengrocers means customers can be safe in the knowledge they are giving back to the local community. Visitors to the centre can also enjoy a traditional afternoon tea as well as a large selection of homemade cakes. Notcutts scones in particular have a growing reputation thanks to a secret recipe. Baked fresh daily, the size and the range of flavours available, including lemon and white chocolate, make them stand out.

The home, gift and seasonal departments have also been redesigned with new flooring, lighting and an improved product layout. Other features include brand new accessible toilets with unisex baby changing facilities.

In addition to the new developments, the Staines store boasts plant experts, wheelchair access, a soil testing service, free parking and home delivery.

Matt Ellis, Centre Manager for Notcutts Garden Centre in Staines, commented:

“The redevelopment plans for Staines are incredibly exciting and we hope they will provide an enjoyable and inspirational experience for our customers. We’re looking forward to welcoming our customers into the new, modern restaurant which will be a fantastic addition to the centre.”

Local dignitaries including the Mayor and Mayoress of Spelthorne Borough Council as well as representatives from local businesses and the Notcutts team were present at the opening of the project. Notcutts’ Vice-Chairman Caroline Notcutt was given the honour of the cutting the ribbon to mark the completion of phase 1.

Founded over 110 years ago in 1897 by Roger Crompton Notcutt, the Suffolk-based company is now in its 4th generation of family ownership. The Staines refurbishment is part of Notcutts’ five-year plan to redevelop its 18 centres across the UK.

The second phase, which is due to be completed in spring 2017, will see the remaining canopy enclosed to complete the expansion of the indoor plant and retail area.

A new outdoor eating area will overlook a new ‘inspiration garden’ which will provide customers with creative ideas for their own gardening projects. For families visiting the centre, the existing children’s play area is being relocated near to the outdoor eating area.

The business operates 18 garden centres throughout England, each with its own local character as well as a growing digital webstore. Notcutts turnover is expected to be in excess of £70m in 2016/17 and employs 1,000 people nationally with 73 currently working at the Staines branch.
