I Want Plants specialise in the supply and installation of customised trees for use in the hospitality and leisure sectors. The company provides beautiful and inspiring decorations for unique projects, including live & replica plant displays, green walls and instant gardens.

I Want Plants has been in operation for 40 years and within this time has worked on a range of projects including Grand Pacific, Manchester and various projects for Gusto. Past projects have included the Lowry at Salford Quays, Yard & Coup in Liverpool, Mowgli in Liverpool and Feast Manchester.

Keen to find out a little more about each project, Premier Hospitality spoke to Jessica Rowlands of I Want Plants to discuss the schemes.

Jessica, said: “The Lowry was an interesting project. Our client was in the process of implementing a refurbishment scheme and as part of this work they wanted to install a tree that could connect up with the local history, which in this instance was the cotton trade.

“To create this tree we made the bark out of resin, giving it a realistic finish and then we added discs made of cotton. To complete the look, we put lights into the trunk so they could shine onto the discs and really bring it to life.

“Meanwhile, for Yard & Coup, our client wanted a feature piece similar to the tree from Roald Dahl’s story, Fantastic Mr. Fox. As with the Lowry project, this was another replica tree so it needed to have a very natural feel. We created a metal frame to form the shape of the tree and then we covered it with dried wood, vines and moss.”

For Mowgli, another focal point was required, only this time to compliment the restaurant’s high ceiling. Jessica commented: “We worked closely with the client and designers to create a 3 meter wooden tree, complete with lights and hanging moss. The finished piece came out of the wall, stretched over the ceiling and was very unique.”

Working on Feast Manchester, I Want Plants were asked to transform a basic restaurant into an wonderful alpine lodge. To achieve this look, I Want Plants covered the ceiling with dark willow, replica birch foliage and large wooden wreaths and finished the design with fairy lights.

More recently, I Want Plants has been involved with The Botanist in Didsbury. On this project, I Want Plants covered the entire front of the building with a living green wall, measuring approximately 55 sq meters and covered with 1800 plants.

Jessica commented: “This was a real one-of-a-kind project for us and another scheme we were proud to be involved with. As the living wall sits on the front of the building it also means that everyone gets to enjoy it, which is great!”

Jessica added:

“We are a family run company, growing bigger by the year but we still give a personal touch to every job we do. We believe in Biophilic design and how it is good for everyone to see plants when they are inside (or in the case of The Botanist) or outside.

“We love creating trees, plants and green walls and we always aim to think outside of the box to create the best designs possible.”
