Mahiki Manchester and Kensington

Renowned London celeb haunt bar Mahiki has added two new jewels to its entertainment crown with the arrival of a site in Manchester and a Kensington site soon to follow.

Open to the public in September 2017 and located on One Central Street, Manchester, Mahiki is known for its exceptional award-winning cocktails, cheeky Tiki vibes and unparalleled fun.

A cocktail lounge area – accessible from Southmill Street – will be open daily from 5pm (12pm on Sundays for brunch), offering guests the chance to unwind in a truly elegant setting. As part of the venue’s refurbishment, the original windows have been restored to their former glory bathing the space in natural light, while the newly installed kitchen will serve up unique Pan-Asian bar snacks and sharing platters.

After dark is when Mahiki (which literally means “path to the underworld”) really comes into its own. At 11pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays the doors to the club area swing open, providing access to the fun-filled party spirit Mahiki is known for around the world. The club area will also have its own entrance on Central Street.

Guests can expect exotic dancers, great music, and, of course, Mahiki’s inimitable cocktails including its signature serve, the Treasure Chest. This epic concoction is served in a real treasure chest, and features Mahiki Rum, the finest brandy and peach liquor shaken with lime and sugar, topped with a bottle of MoĂ«t & Chandon.

Work on the Manchester location was undertaken by Zerum Consult who acted as Planning Consultants and CT Creative Ltd – a London based experiential design and fit-out company, with a growing reputation for creating innovative designs for interior and exterior, pop ups, events and bespoke brand assets.

Speaking to Premier Hospitality magazine about the project, Jamie Wilson, Director of CT Creative said: “The brief was an evolution of what they have already got and was about updating the design a bit more and making it more suitable for the Manchester market with a premium offering.

“In the Manchester site, one of the things that is different from the original London site is the use of tropical wallpapers from Cole and Sons Wallpapers. We also used lots of Chinese Jade tiles made by Cheeky Tiki. The site is much more of an early-evening site so we have used natural light, which we haven’t had before in any other venues, with a tropical feel.

“I think some of the things we enjoyed doing where the Chinese Jade tiles, they were nice to work with. They were a classic item that we reproduced ourselves. In the club area the walls have black velvet paintings and they were interesting to do. They haven’t really been used since the 1970s so that was interesting.”

Now an award winning global brand with premises in London, Marbella, Sardinia and Dubai, Mahiki brings its oasis of good vibes to Manchester after Mahiki Mayfair co-founder and entrepreneur Piers Adam joined forces with former Manchester United defender and GG Hospitality Director Gary Neville.

Mahiki Manchester co-founder, Piers Adam, said: “Mahiki are thrilled to be expanding the Aloha spirit and bringing our synonymous Polynesian Tiki glamour to Manchester. This is a city with community at its core, and we are thrilled to be partnering with one of Manchester’s very own, Gary Neville. Together we will ensure we retain our reputation for world class cocktails and fun.”

Gary Neville, Director at GG Hospitality, added: “We are excited to bring Mahiki to Manchester. It has long been known in London and overseas for offering a unique, fun experience and now Manchester will be able to offer that too. Mahiki is a global celebrated nightspot and we know the people of Manchester will not be disappointed, it will add a new exciting vibe to the ever growing nightlife scene in the city centre.”

Mahiki first opened in London’s Mayfair 12 years ago, and its unremitting fun-factor and open door policy has won the hearts of innumerable A-listers including Rihanna, Harry Styles, BeyoncĂ© and Jay Z, while HRH Prince Harry is also a known fan.

Due to its increasing popularity, Mahiki is also launching its second London location at the heart of the Royal Borough, Kensington. Located on the doors of Kensington Palace, Mahiki Kensington is set to open in November 2017.

Combining a wealth of hospitality knowledge, the co-founders of Albert’s private member’s club, Jake Parkinson-Smith, Fraser Carruthers and Carlo Carello, have joined forces as Joint Venture Partners with Mahiki founders and entrepreneurs, Piers and David, to open Mahiki Kensington.

Expanding its reach beyond the successful and iconic Dover Street club, the new Kensington site will deliver an unforgettable experience which remains key to Mahiki’s ethos with guests treated to award winning signature fresh fruit cocktails and Mahiki’s iconic champagne treasure chests that encapsulate the little piece of paradise.

Taking inspiration from its namesake, onsite restaurant Pufferfish will offer an enticing menu of Pan Asian delicacies from Head Chef Sakorn Somboon, previously of Aqua Kyoto. The menu will transport guests to an exotic Polynesian Paradise and deliver unforgettable theatrical touches that include sushi hand seared tableside with a blowtorch, plus a Raw Bar and hand carved Polynesian statues, amongst the authentic Tiki creative details.

Mahiki Kensington will be serving lunch and dinner whilst also becoming a night-time hot spot open until 3am. Brunch parties on Saturdays and Sundays will be a not-to-miss weekly event, with a focus on never ending Mimosa’s and bottomless Bloody Mary’s that will make Mahiki Kensington the ultimate weekend destination.

Piers Adam, concluded: “Mahiki are so excited to be opening its second London site. After 10 years, Mahiki is now an institution and an authority on award-winning cocktails. We’re thrilled to be partnering with the superstars of the local area, Jake, Carlo and Fraser. Mahiki Kensington will not only retain its reputation for fun, but it will also be introducing a world class head chef specialising in Asian cuisine.”
