Mourne Manor – Bradley Way Housing Development

An exclusive housing development of 23 properties currently under construction in the town of Strabane, Northern Ireland is on schedule for a December 2018 completion. Developed by McGettigan Homes Ltd, the new homes combine striking architecture with traditional practicality.

Known as Mourne Manor, the development is on one of the few remaining areas of land close to the centre of Strabane. The 23 properties are split between five detached dwellings and 18 semi-detached dwellings. A team of highly skilled, professional tradesman are in the process of carefully constructing each house and bringing the design of leading architectural practice O’Connor Burke to life.

Each home is constructed to a standard well above current building regulations with unique features such as triple glazing, increased insulation and improved air tightness. The houses have major environmental benefits that mean they are easy to maintain and have reduced running costs. Externally, a mixture of white render and grey stone create a fresh, contemporary look.  Internally each room has been carefully considered to maximise light and space, making use of a clever layout to provide a balance between practicality and style.

Premier Construction recently caught up with Pat O’Connor, Director at O’Connor Burke, to find out how the project is progressing so far:

“The client is a repeat client of ours and this is actually one of two projects we’re working with him on. He’s very much forward thinking and very understanding on getting the best out of the end product.

“This site had been partially developed in 2002 prior to the financial crash. It’s in a prime location adjacent to the communication hub for the town which is the bus depot and supermarkets. It’s one of the few sites in the area that’s within walking distance of local facilities. From the outset we knew that the site required piling and this has been the biggest challenge.

“One of the key things that the site delivers is that it’s taking away an abandoned site that was a bit of an eye sore. It sits between quite substantial residential properties and a supermarket and bus depot so from a visual point of view it’s clearly on enhancement for the streetscape.”

First occupants at the site have already moved into their new homes and full completion at the end of 2018 will mark a significant step for housing in Strabane for years to come.
