Franklin Court

Award-winning property developer Signia Living has launched its latest venture – a significant development of 150 high quality apartments. Located round the corner from the world famous Elstree Film Studios in Borehamwood, Franklin Court is a collection of 150 one, two and three bedroom apartments.

Created by rpa:group, the architects and lead designers for the work, Franklin Court was completed in November 2017. As well as benefiting from stylish living spaces, Franklin Court residents can also make use of communal amenity spaces, individual rear gardens or balconies and secure parking spaces.

The building itself has an iconic, eye-catching feel and makes the most of its prominent location in Borehamwood. The contemporary design from rpa:group enhances the existing streetscape and provides a statement for the beginning of a corridor of major development in the town. The use of a higher corner treatment acts as a focal point to the development and reinforces the building’s prominent position on a roundabout. The building has a clear top, middle and bottom, which was a key consideration in the design process.

This has been achieved through a variety of techniques including a tall corner element to provide a strong architectural statement at the key junction. Smaller elements at the South and North end elevations complement the adjacent lower building heights, while intermediate elements provide considered level changes to the strong corner elements. Double height openings at Ground and First Floor, enhanced with varied detailing, help to define a clear ‘base’ to the scheme. Glass setbacks on top storeys of the side wings help reduce perceived scale of building and provide a clear ‘top’ to the scheme. Used between principle elements, glass setbacks also help to break up the sheer scale of the building.

Darryl Beck, Associate at rpa:group comments:

“From the outset of the design process, our aim has been to produce a scheme of exceptional quality, that is appropriate to its prominent corner location. The resultant building is highly informed by its context and has been designed to set a benchmark for future developments in the Elstree Way Corridor.”

Internally, apartments at Franklin Court are high spec and eco-friendly. Top of the range fixtures and finishes are prevalent throughout such as Bosch stainless steel kitchen appliances, timber floors and bathrooms with branded sanitary ware and heated towel rails.

Built to the Code for Sustainable Homes level 4, Franklin Court features a host of energy efficient features to reduce carbon footprints and energy bills. Low energy light fittings, dual flush toilets, triple glazing and superior insulation all make significant contributions to the building’s sustainability.

Franklin Court is within walking distance of a number of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants while London can be reached in less than 30 minutes by train. Uptake on the property has been good with over 50% now sold, a testament to its stylish internal and external design. To find out more about the development, please visit franklincourt.co.uk.
