GAP Maintains Silver FORS Accreditation

GAP Hire Solutions, the UK’s largest independent plant, tools and equipment rental company, has successfully retained its FORS (Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme) Silver accreditation.

FORS is a voluntary accreditation scheme for commercial fleet operators which aims to raise the level of quality within fleet operations. With over 5,000 members, FORS is widely recognised as the transport industry’s go-to accreditation scheme.

GAP’s Head of Procurement Ken Stewart commented: “We are delighted to be associated with FORS and to have been re-accredited this year to Bronze and Silver standards. We operate a large and ever expanding diverse fleet of vehicles supporting our various divisions across the UK. With FORS accreditation we are able to demonstrate improved levels of driver safety, vehicle operating efficiencies, environmental awareness and regulatory compliance”.

‘Think Safe’ is GAP’s watchword, and every element of the company’s transport operation is informed by a strong safety aspect. GAP’s Silver accreditation demonstrates to its customers and supply chain its commitment to managing its work-related road risk (WRRR) and exceeding the industry standard.

To meet the FORS Standard, GAP is required to ensure all drivers and line managers undergo approved progressive training and continued professional development, with particular attention paid to the safety of vulnerable road users. Through a programme of internal and external audits, GAP has demonstrated adherence to its processes and procedures as well as meeting current legislative requirements.

To deliver and collect its vast range of products to customers, GAP’s extensive transport fleet spans small tool vans to 26T Hiab trucks. GAP’s vehicles have forward-facing recording cameras on their sat-nav devices, warning bleepers for turning left and reversing bleepers. This is to ensure its vehicles are safe and user friendly to the public.

As part of GAP’s continued commitment to personal development and ensuring its processes and systems are second to none, the company recently achieved certification to the first international standard for Occupational Health and Safety ISO 45001 2018, replacing its existing OHSAS 18001 certification.
