The Muddler

Brand new Pan-Asian restaurant The Muddler has opened on Grey Street in Newcastle, with a beautifully designed interior and a menu providing an explosion of delicious flavours from many cultures.

The building has been lovingly redeveloped to the highest of standards, creating an impressive and opulent setting for stunning food, drinks and excellent service in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

The restaurant is owned by Danieli Holdings, the company behind Newcastle’s increasing popular shipping container village, STACK and has taken over the site where much loved restaurant Osaka used to be. Joining STACK, Cluck-Cluck Moo, Yolo Townhouse and Yolo Ponteland, The Muddler is the latest addition to a portfolio of successful establishments owned by Danieli Holdings.

The Muddler serves an exquisite selection of cuisine, plus a wide choice of creative cocktails, all of which are completely exclusive to Muddler. Heading up the kitchen is head chef Pauline Fresnillo, who has worked in the catering industry for over 10 years, covering numerous specialist venues around the North East.

Pauline is thrilled to be a part of the team at Muddler stating that: “You can’t find anything else like it in Newcastle.” The menu at Muddler has a creative flair with a mix of and ingredients from many different countries. He added “because there will always be something new to try, people will keep coming back for more.”

Pauline’s sentiments are echoed by Chef Franklin Abundo, who has also joined the Muddler team.

Franklin has worked within some of the greatest kitchens in the world over his 50+ years as a chef, including a 10-year period at the famous 5* Shangri La hotel, the largest hotel in the Philippians.

Franklin commented: “The Muddler is a fusion, it’s not just one type of food, it is an explosion of flavours from all over the world, you get a little bit of everything.”

Joining them in the kitchen at The Muddler, Wilson Delos Santos brings technical skills and creativity to his favourite food, sushi. Having previously worked in Newcastle Wilson experiments and creates new dishes for the vast menu that The Muddler offers.

He added: “The Muddler offers a different kind of menu, mixing traditional recipes with modern ideas. It mixes food from all sorts of cultures, and there’s nothing like it in Newcastle. People need to try the incredible platters and the Wasabi prawns, which are exclusive to Muddler.”

Highlights of the exciting new menu include sushi platters served with dry ice, Kimchi Chicken, which fuses several different types of cuisine together, and Fresnillo’s personal favourite dish, Beef Robata.

The menu also features tasting platters, skewers and food art dishes.

Cp Lighting

Cp Lighting specialises in lighting for both domestic and commercial applications. With over 30 years of experience, the company is a leading lighting supplier in the North East and provides a high quality service to both tradesmen and retail customers.

Cp Lighting has worked on a diverse range of projects. Standout work includes Livello in Newcastle, Kababji in London and The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate, as well as a variety of care homes and private residences.

More recently the company was involved with The Muddler, supplying decorative lighting thanks to a longstanding relationship with interior design firm Collective Design.

Dan Clint, Cp Lighting Project Coordinator, said:

“We love to work on commercial projects and see the transformation through, especially ones that are this close to home! Newcastle has such a great selection of pubs, bars and clubs that it’s great to be involved in the making of another.”

Dan added:

“We have a stunning showroom in Team Valley, Gateshead, which caters to our retail market as well as in house lighting coordinators to make suggestions and source lighting solutions. We are able to make bespoke feature lighting too. We work very closely with most of Newcastle’s interior designers so always have some fantastic projects on the go!”


Meridian Contract Furniture

Meridian Contract Furniture specialises in the manufacture of fixed and loose bespoke contract seating, for the global market. 95% of what the company supplies is manufactured in its own UK factory. The company has been in operation for 12 years under the Meridian Upholstery brand, with its contract furniture brand launching in 2016.

The company has been involved in many large scale projects over the world, most recently Tapas York, For Your Eyes Only in London, Le Grand Damme and The Palm. Meridian was involved with The Muddler, in the manufacturing and the upholstery of all fixed seating and some of the loose chairs.
