The UK’s First Entirely Compostable air-tight Nespresso-compatible hand roasted Speciality coffee capsule

The perfect luxury compostable pods to offer alongside Guest Nespresso machines have launched. Hotel owners are keen to be the first to offer their guests Lost Sheep Coffee’s luxury single origin grade 1 Speciality coffee, which is bought directly from the Barbosa family farm in Brazil.

Lost Sheep Coffee pods are presented in plant-based Nespresso-compatible capsules that are certified 100% compostable and, crucially, air tight for superior freshness of up to one year.

Priced from just 28p per pod and made using the latest advancements in composability technology, the new capsules are made predominantly from wood bark – or Lignin – which is a waste product of the paper industry. As Lost Sheep’s capsules are 100% natural they will compost to absolutely nothing in a matter of weeks.

“As luxury hotel owners know, an in-room Nespresso machine helps set the tone of your hotel. The taste, tractability and eco credentials of the pods need to equally reflect the quality of the entire guest experience. As owners of speciality coffee shops and a speciality coffee roaster we know that customers expect the convenience of being able to experience a really quality cup of coffee anywhere with none of the guilt of chucking more plastic into land fill. So, it was imperative to the Lost Sheep Coffee team that we were able to deliver our exceptional speciality grade coffee in a format that is entirely compostable, whilst still delivering an amazing taste experience for our customers.

“Until recently, compostable capsules had a very short freshness life as the air tight seal would perish faster than the plastic predecessors and the coffee inside would start to go stale after just a few months. This was a challenge we knew we needed to overcome; our coffee is graded in the top 5% for quality so avoiding staleness was of great importance. After extensive research and development our new capsules achieve a level of oxygen impermeability which enables Lost Sheep Coffee to guarantee a minimum shelf life of 12months.

Says Stuart Wilson, Founder of Lost Sheep Coffee.
