Renowned London cake shop Konditor & Cook is extending its partnership with food waste app Too Good To Go, to be the UK’s first boutique chain of cake shops to eliminate all food waste. With cake being one of the top 10 most wasted foods in the UK1, the partnership will help Konditor & Cook’s customers rescue the delicious bakes leftover at the end of the day, rather than being thrown away.
Too Good To Go connects food establishments that have unsold food at the end of the day with hungry consumers, who can save a ‘Magic Bag’ of surplus food from going to waste. Consumers simply download the Too Good To Go app, search for nearby stores with leftover food, which they can then purchase for a reduced price through the app and collect from the store.
The partnership follows a successful launch which has seen Konditor & Cook save over 4,700 portions of baked goods from being thrown away and avoided 8.95 tonnes of CO2 from being produced, a leading cause of climate change. The company has always been committed to reducing food waste by donating any leftover food to local food banks and charities, but this partnership supports their mission to eradicate waste completely.
The partnership is running across all five Konditor & Cook shops in London, with the brand’s famous cakes, desserts and brownies making up their ‘Magic Bags’ depending on what’s not been sold.
