The High Dive

After much anticipation the latest addition to the award-winning Civerinos Food Club, The High Dive Pizza bar is officially open in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh’s very first ‘Pizza Pub,’ situated on St Leonard’s Street, which is the former Old Montague Pub promises all day breakfast, world-class pizza and drinks until late with banging tunes from the renowned Civerinos family.

Speaking to PREMIER HOSPITALITY MAGAZINE, Michele Civiera, owner of The High Dive and man behind Civerinos said: “This is our third site but it is a new concept for us. I had my eye on the site for about five years. It got to the point where it had been sat empty for a while and if anyone had been in it, they were only there for around six months. I had been driving past it as I was going in and out of the city and eventually I couldn’t just drive past anymore and decided to get the site.

“The site is in a great neighbourhood with about 34,000 students living in and around it. Plus it is an old fashioned, nice looking pub on the corner, which I was really drawn to because it fitted in with the concept perfectly.”

Civerinos are already famous in the city for their New York style wood fired pizzas and modern Italian street food with their secret classic family recipes passed down through generations.

One of a kind to the city of Edinburgh, award-winning Civerinos has two already established city centre locations – ‘Civerinos’ at Hunter Square on The Royal Mile and ‘Civerinos Slice’ at Forrest Road. The newest addition to add to their collection, The High Dive is a family-friendly, reasonably priced neighbourhood pizza bar which is ideal for laid back dining and drinking with friends. Open seven days a week from morning until night, the site even features the Speakeasy Civerinos Slice dining area through the back for pizza lovers who want a little more privacy.

“It is mad!” said Michele. “In terms of the design, there are lots of tiles, bright orange ceilings, a tiled floor like a swimming pool and the bar is made out of recycled plastic bottles; it is nuts. It has all of the features that a traditional pub has but we have amped it up a bit.

“We have taken this pub and transformed it into somewhere that isn’t for a certain demographic. We have mums, kids and families in during the day and then students during the night. It is open to everyone whereas the building wasn’t really that open before.”

Open from 9am with complimentary filter coffee and Wi-Fi, the new menu features all day breakfast with their amazing home-made granola bowls, super fruit smoothies and breakfast pizzas to start your day off in style! Their Civerinos Slice Pizzas, well known worldwide, feature all of their pizza fans most loved toppings starting from £5, which are all made with San Marzano tomatoes, the finest double zero flour and 100% mozzarella, as well as their top secret ingredients, which are all perfect for sharing.

To finish they have featured some of their most sought after Italian style desserts including their zeppole hot doughnuts (house made doughnuts served with whipped cream and the option of adding Nutella) and of course the all-time favourite – their Nutella calzone, filled with Nutella, banana, pistachio nuts and raspberries – which is to die for.

The High Dive neighbourhood pizza bar is set to become another top favourite for pizza fans in Edinburgh and is the perfect spot for locals, visitors and tourists alike visiting the city.

Michele said: “This site is massively important to us. Our brand is growing and our brand added weight to this project so in terms of brand progression and brand awareness, this was the perfect story. All of the student who used my other venues in different parts of the city now have a site right on the corner of where they live.”
