Ullswater Heights

Five-star resort operator Leisure Resorts has opened a brand new luxury holiday resort called Ullswater Heights. Located in the village of Newbiggin, the park opened to the public at the beginning of July.

Ullswater Heights encircles a beautiful eight-acre lake of its own, set amongst 70 acres of land and designed gardens that complement the surrounding countryside. The resort sets a whole new standard for high-end holiday accommodation, offering gorgeous holiday lodges for ownership or holidays, including spa getaways and a UK-first: centrally heated glamping tents with Jacuzzis.

Leisure Resorts has invested an amount approaching £20 million into the brand new holiday park which has 150 pitches as well as an on-site restaurant, farm and playground. Ullswater Heights, the fourth holiday park for the business, marks a significant step for the company and a whole new level in Leisure Resorts’ offering.

Commenting on the launch, Leisure Resorts Managing Director Gary Molloy said: “Leisure Resorts has been operating for just over two years and Ullswater Heights represents the pinnacle of our achievements to-date. We’re taking our offering to a new level, aiming to open as the best holiday park in the UK and never stop improving what we offer. We’re delighted to partner with Hoseasons who have over 75 years’ experience offering brilliant holiday lodge getaways. Uptake of holiday homes for ownership has also been a great success so far – this will be a tranquil and beautiful escape for owners and holidaymakers alike.”

The site originally had planning consent granted in 2009 for 153 holiday homes. Leisure Resorts bought the site in mid-2018. Leisure Resorts had the infrastructure division and the funding to bring the design forward and build something really special. The site as it appears today is largely Gary Molloy’s vision, brought to life by H2 Landscape Planning Partnership, working to tweak the layouts and accommodate the brand-new glamping element. Leisure Resorts wanted to make the design more sympathetic to the lay of the land, keeping that natural look and feel.

The park boasts one-of-a-kind, stylishly appointed glamping tents with cosy safari-themed interior design and central heating as standard – plus log burners making them ideal for all-year-round use. Known as Safari Tents, the indoor kitchen and an outdoor barbecue area offer a space for the whole family to congregate and relax.

The Safari Tents are available in one and two-storey varieties, with quirky and functional layout and design making them the ultimate cubby-house for kids and plenty of comfy couches making for a cosy escape for grown-ups. The single-storey tents sleep six and the two-storey tents sleep eight.

The idyllic park is a perfect setting for a relaxing family holiday – completely secure with key-gate entry meaning children can roam free while parents relax. Children can make furry friends on-site at Chloe-Ann’s Farm and explore an exciting playground while parents can watch on in comfort from the adjacent restaurant with its view of the lake.

The Lake House Bar and Restaurant on-site boasts a mouth-watering menu of home-made classics with locally-sourced Lakeland produce and ingredients. With the restaurant open for lunch and dinner, guests have the choice to dine out close to home or take advantage of the self-catering facilities.

The park is also home to one of the most expensive holiday lodges ever manufactured in the UK, created by British luxury home provider Aspire Park & Leisure Homes. Dubbed The Blencathra, the stunning lodge is one of the first in the UK to feature a Jacuzzi on the roof. It offers an incredible 1,430 square feet of space with three bedrooms, four bathrooms and a vast open plan living room. With a guide price of £795,000, the lodge is a unique masterpiece and the most sought-after holiday lodge in the UK.
