GAP Hire Solutions has been shortlisted in the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Initiative of the Year category at the prestigious Construction News (CN) Talent Awards 2019.

The award category acknowledges organisations that strive to recognise and improve its employees’ health, safety and wellbeing. GAP’s entry focused on their new Interactive Toolbox Talks which are a hire industry-first.

To coincide with the anniversary of GAP’s 50th trading year, the company’s aim was to create an indispensable, free tool that can be used to keep people safe. The interactive format allows users to navigate a virtual work site, drawing attention to the risks associated with their equipment and surroundings. The 15 modules provide a wealth of information on the most common health and safety risks on construction sites including working at heights, hand arm vibrations, confined spaces and slips, trips & falls.

Douglas Anderson, GAP’s Joint Managing Director, commented: “My main priority is to make sure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day and our Interactive Toolbox Talks have already proved an invaluable tool to help achieve this.

“The feedback received from employees and customers has all been positive; they enjoy digitalisation and innovations, and they found the Interactive Toolbox Talks to be a great way of refreshing their knowledge while reinforcing best practice. This tool coupled with our extensive training programmes gives me peace of mind that our employees will work safely and effectively.”

GAP’s original award-winning Toolbox Talks and Split-Second Safety initiatives were pioneering in the hire industry and have helped the company reduce its accident frequency rate year-on-year, making it one of the lowest in the construction industry. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed – it was just announced that GAP has achieved a RoSPA Gold Award for the second year running.
