Hotel Pontsteiger
Vondel Hotels started 2019 well with the opening of their new hotel, Hotel Pontsteiger, in the up and coming neighbourhood, Houthavens in Amsterdam. The four star designed hotel has 25 rooms along with Café Pontsteiger, which has a large sunny terrace on the waterfront. Hotel Pontsteiger is located on the ground floor of the modern, state-of-the-art ‘Pontsteiger’ building, which also houses luxury apartments. A spacious 30-metre wide pier takes you to the hotel and café where the interior consists of a combination of green, industrial and warm materials giving the hotel a cool and creative atmosphere.

Pontsteiger is an important part of the transformation of Houthaven; the place where cargo ships unloaded their logs a century ago. The 90-metre high building is the new benchmark of the riverside with Hotel Pontsteiger and Café Pontsteiger located on the ground floor of the building. Together, with interior designer Nicemakers, Vondel Hotels has put together a beautiful interior that perfectly matches the character of the building. Pontsteiger is sturdy and robust with warm materials and depending on the sun, the façade of the entire building has a varying green to golden glow. These shades and materials are reflected in the interior of both the hotel and the café. Many hotel rooms have a phenomenal view of the IJ River, which makes a stay at Hotel Pontsteiger unique.
The hotel comes with five room types; Indoor Room, Comfort Room, Deluxe Room, Junior Suite and Suite. Each room comes with a comfortable bed, smart TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, hairdryer, safe and fresh coffee and tea making facilities. The bathrooms each have a walk-in rain shower, expect the Junior Suite and the Suite which also have bathtubs.
Yellowspot, lighting consultant for Vondel Hotels, designed modified wall mounted fixtures in the rooms so guests can match lighting levels to their own mood.
Café Pontsteiger
Café Pontsteiger is a neighbourhood café that offers everything you wish for during the day, to dine in or take away. High ceilings and infinite windows with an inspiring view overlooking the IJ River make Café Pontsteiger the destination for creative souls. Café Pontsteiger opens early in the morning to serve breakfast and is open throughout the day so diners can enjoy good food and a selection of beer and wine.
For the café, Yellowspot designed the layout of a waved light installation. Tim Veenvliet, Yellowspot, commented:
