The Ardwick

The Ardwick is Manchester City’s new pub, situated in the South East corner of the Etihad Stadium. It opened for the first time to fans at City’s home game versus Chelsea on the 23rd November 2019.

The space takes inspiration from the traditional English pub and has been purpose-built within the Stadium, and in celebration of Manchester City’s 125th season, the pub has been named The Ardwick as a nod to the Club’s heritage back when it was known as Ardwick AFC before being renamed as Manchester City in 1894.

The pub seats 90 people and this includes ‘bleacher’ style seats within the Stadium bowl to watch the game which were also purpose-built for this space.

Dawnvale have been working closely with MCFC for a while, assisting with smaller projects; including small refurbishments and the supply of furniture within the stadium. They were approached to supply a competitive tender based on the design for The Ardwick that had been signed off from MCFC.

Jacob Regan of Dawnvale said: “The brief was to build and fit out the Ardwick ensuring the overall finish reflected a traditional pub- something that felt like it had been there for years. Space Invader design had already presented numerous ideas within the drawing pack and our role was to work closely alongside them and MCFC to make sure this was achievable within the time frame available.

“For me, the design highlights include the feature bar which includes decorative cornice surround, the snug, with feature chairs and vintage juke box, and the bespoke timber panelling surrounding the full pub.”

The overall timescale of the project took four and a half weeks to completion.

Jacob finishes: “We have been attending the site following its opening weeks, and the feedback has been great, the bar is operating efficiently, the finishes are wearing well and there has been a real request for further tickets.

“Being a Manchester based company, it is always important to be associated with working with local customers, especially when they are as recognisable as MCFC. We try to source and manufacture as many elements for a project as close to home as possible in order to support the surrounding Manchester area. From working with MCFC we know this is a big part of their ethos and it was great to work with a likeminded company.”
