Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum!

The Rum Kitchen- Notting Hill

Showcasing the vibrant flavours of the West Indies and with a hidden cellar housing over 100 varieties of rum from across the region, The Rum Kitchen in the heart of Notting Hill will be opening its doors this month.

Located on All Saint’s Road, the 60-cover Caribbean restaurant aims to become a local hang out merging music and a desire for the ‘good life’ with fresh, seasonal produce and crafted cocktails.

The Rum Kitchen will be steered by Head Chef Nickie McLeod who has worked extensively in restaurants across the UK and overseas. Nickie is famed for her ‘experimental’ cuisine which infuses fresh local ingredients with her passion for food- much to the delight of the customer’s taste buds.

With some 20 years experience covering East Asian, Caribbean, Israeli, modern Australian and British cuisine- Nickie is thrilled to bring her culinary craft to All Saint’s Road. Her most recent success was heading up the kitchen at Beach Blanket Babylon in Shoreditch where she was responsible for recreating the venues menu.

Speaking about The Rum Kitchen Nickie said:

“I’m excited to get started at the Rum Kitchen, which is in a great area rich in a tradition of West Indian cuisine.

“I want to show that Caribbean cuisine can be healthy, is robust in flavour and can be beautifully presented – it’s about bringing a touch of Caribbean sunshine to Notting Hill.”

Her menu will focus on refined Caribbean classics including starter plates such as Ackee and salt fish bruschetta with spinach and slow roasted cherry tomato and a Ceviche of scallops, tomato salsa, guacamole, cucumber, spring onion and coriander. Alongside staple Caribbean mains such as Jerk chicken and curried goat, Nickie will also be cooking Roast cod marinated in coconut milk with scotch bonnet, lemon zest, garlic and thyme and a brown-stew oxtail with butter beans. All meals are complimented deliciously when consumed with liberal lashings of rum.

The cocktail menu has been developed by Bar Manager Imogen Elliott – formerly of Portobello Star – and will focus heavily on Rum with some Caribbean inspired tipples such as The Rattle Skull Punch – a secret blend of rum punch with spices and fruits, served in an enamel jug and the Rumbustion – with cooling coconut, spices and rum.

The Rum Kitchen’s interiors will feature a chilled out cafe style dining space and a cosy downstairs cellar with exposed rum barrels adorning the walls.

Graphic design heavy weights ilovedust and 44th Hill have masterminded the interior design in the restaurant.
